Better handling for street: Stiffer Rear OR Softer Rear
hey guys i have a 01 SH and i have tanabe full suspension, tanabe front and rear strut bars and tanabe rear sway bar. What do you guys think is better handling for the street Stiffer Rear OR Softer Rear?
depends on the drivers preference. i think stock hondas have way too much understeer, so you can stiffen up the rear to cure that problem with arear sway bar, which you said you already have. but if you get too stiff in the corners, and you need to brake hard, you could get too much oversteer and really mess up your car if you crash. for this reason i have kept the stock sway bars.
Dude you are persistent aren't you?
Ok, I'll get you started but then you need to do some research on your own.
So you have Tanabe coilovers right now, correct? Or just Tanabe springs?
I'm assuming that you have the coilovers so this is what you'll need to order:

The default spring rates for ALL Tanabe coilovers for the Prelude are 8kg/4kg. To convert to lbs, multiply by 56. SO, you have approximately 448 front and 224 rear. For a comfortable setup with less understeer, I would leave the front alone and bump up the rear to ~350 (just over 6kg). If you plan on doing some weekend autocross and don't mind a stiff ride, get 450 lbs rear (8kg) so that you have 8F/8R or 450F/450R. I'm not sure what spring rates Tanabe offers so you need to do some leg work and get in touch with them - they obviously have 8k springs b/c you already have those in front but I'm not sure what increments they offer between 6 and 8kg.
There ya go

personally, on the roads i drive i like to have a little higher front spring rates than in the rear and dial the understeer out with sways.
