Default YOUR B16 MPG!

Just a curious question. With all your Turbos and All Motor built how much MPG are you guys getting from your B16? Mine is a stock JDM B16A in an EM1 and I only get 240 miles for 12 gallons of gas. Seem like i got a gas per mileage problem?

I have a 95 JDM B16A and I get 23MPG city. That's definitely lower than my stock D15B7 @ 36ish MPG city!!!

12 gallon gas tank? man I must have a bunch of crud at the bottom of mine because it stops filling up at 10 gallons. I get about 290 - 320 per tank depending on how I drive. basically stock em1

That's either city driving or you stay on the "big" cam lobes alot. I drive home (489 miles) on a tank and a half

im going to answer all your questions at once.
1. everyones mpg will be different becuz everyones set up is different.wut motor,in what car, with wut mods, and if they did any weight reduction.
2.Im sure that everyone who is here knows they have vtec. and im sure we all "pop" vtec alot.when u "pop" vtec at your set rpm you use more fuel. also try to keep your foot off the gas, it will make your money and your motor last ALOT LONGER! trust me, i used to drive with a lead foot.
3.MISC. TIPS- 1.always let your car warm up before driving it. 2.try not to rapidly accelerate. 3. try not to come to full stops, try to keep in motion then you will not have to use as much gas to get your car moving again. 4.you need oil, gas, air, and your engine warm to engage vtec, so make sure you fix any leaks and be patient.
hope i answered some questions.

I get around 40mpg on highway..around 30mpg in the city..Always try and shift at 3000revs..Never really get on it at all..This is in a 1850lb crx.. At one point I was getting like 25mpg and found out it was the tires being underinflated..

wow. i drive like an ******* and got 35 hwy, 25 city in my old b16a EG CX hatch.

btw, to the OP, don't go with tank capacity when figuring your MPG. fill your tank, reset your trip odometer. then, when you fill up again (hopefully at the same pump for consistency) divide your distance travelled by the amount of gas you pumped in.

EJ8 with a 89 B16 ITR cams, JDM DC header, Apexi N1 exhuast, titanium springs and retainers, running a p73 ecu, and I get 30mpg (that's overall city/hwy driving).

You might want to pull your plugs and see how they look, they won't lie about how your car is running. Sounds like your car needs a full tune-up and a new fuel filter.
Or, you might need to stop driving like Brian Spilner, if you do.

Damn... Near stock EM1 and I get around 23-25 in the winter time. In the summer when I don't let my car warm up I can make upwards of 26-29 mpg. I've hit 30 mpg ONCE, but it wasn't any fun drivin my car that week.

my em1 was always getting low-mid twenty's. its not the motor its the tranny that is the problem. very short gearing means that unless you drive like an old woman your going to use gas. hell my ls motor with type r tranny gets the same mileage as my stock em1. most bseries dont get good gas mileage unless tuned.

Ummm...I have a b20 with b16 tranny. I get around 25-30 city and 30-35 highway with an LS 5th gear. It all in how you drive. Don't engage vtec. It will kill your mileage.

you have an ls 5th gear that is why you are getting that mileage. on both my type r and b16 tranny 5th is short that is why they eat gas. it has to do with both driving style and gearing. my 5.0 got better highway mileage then any of my honda's. because it was 2.73 geared and was only at 2-3k rpms on the highway. compared to my honda's where i am at 4-4.5k rpms on the highway.
my ls does not have v-tec and it gets similar mileage to my b16.

9:1 compression turbo B16 making a decent amount of power knocking down 26mpg city (all I drive) and running 450cc injectors are 65psi of rail pressure with a Walbro 255. It's all in the tune and regulation of right foot.

65 psi seems a little high even for a bossted car.
