SPUN BEARING..WTD?
ok i just got this 89 hatch, it turns over and everything...well here is the story. bought it from a friend who lost the plug to the oil pan, drove it wwith out oil. now it sounds like a machine gun, turns over and runs just knockes really bad. if it is a spun bearing how can i fix it and how do i get to it?

motors with spun bearings are usually not recommended to be rebuilt. You can have damage to the main journals and the crank.
I'd rather start from scratch that trying to fix that block. Its cheaper and better for peace of mind to use a fresh good block to use.

just buy a crank kit [160+/-] and youll be fine...
.if you dont want to spend the cash involved in a slight rebuild then buy another used long block.....but then its just another 115k+ engine instead of a rebuilt bottom end...
go to a reputable IMPORT oriented shop [they shoud know what a b series is whit out a hiccup} and do the rubuild. i dont know why its not a good idea to rebuild. this is the first time ive heard about it...

cause if the bearing is spun, the crank is SHOT. honda cranks dont like to be cut.
please just get a new shortblock. they are no more than like 50-60 bucks at the junkyard
