It's actually happening to a buddy of mine, he should be in here in a bit to give more details. It has happened on the highway a couple of times, I know that. It just dies. He has to throw it in neutral and start it up again.
We've heard it may be the ignition switch, alternator or fuel filter. I think it'll be the fuel filter.
Steve, Where are you??

lmao thats classic
Hi guys, as Researchracing posted...I could really use some help. I have a 97 Accord LX. Car starts up fine. I be driving, everything is fine. No warning lights lit. I'll be driving along then the car just shuts off. As if I turned the key off. I put it in neutral, and it takes about 8 times for the car to restart. During those 8 times, the car turns over fine, but it just dosen't catch. Here's my problem, I took it to a shop and the mech thinks it's the ignition switch. Can it be the switch?? I haven't changed the fuel filter in a very long time. Another friend thinks it could be the alternator or ignition relay. Has anyone else experienced this problem. The car has 140K on it. Mostly going to race tracks. Thanks for any replies.

Anyway, its definetly a problem with the ignition whether relay, switch, alternator, etc. Also check your plugs and plug wires.
I have a 92 Accord that was having similar problems. Check the Ignition control module in your distributor. Hope this helps cause I know what a p.i.a. it is to have a problem like that happen to you.
when i first got the car, the car would not start 7/10 times. there was an electrical problem. i had to always mess around with the wires behidn the dashboard and it would turn on eventually. it wasn't a motor problem. i took it to honda and they replaced the relay(i think the starter relay) and ever since that day i never had a problem. good luck.
the main relay, that is under the dash is a problen on fourth gen accords. The problem is most pronounced when it is hot outside. check the dist cap, rotor, and the ingnitor as well
i had that happen to my 93 accord, and it turned out to be the starter. sounds like it could be anything though. my suggestion is to take to a trust mechanic and get him to run a diagnostic, then if feel comortable, fix it yourself. if not, leave it in trusted hands. tough break though man. good luck
Hey guys, thanks to everyone here for all your help. I think I'll swap the relay and the fuel filter first. Ignition switch will be about $112 for just the part. Problem is is that I heard to change the fuel filter is a b&%$. Anyone attempt it???
if you feel like being mean take it to jiffy lube, cuz yes it is a sonofasombinatch
and you will bust your nuckles up real good. let your car cool do first so you at least dont burn your self. and if you take it to the lube have mercy and tell them you can wait till it cools down.

if it's only happened on one tank of gas it could be bad gas...i can't get gas from certain stations here where i live because they seem to have bad gas!...but it's probably more serious than that!
I'm gonna change the filter, I know it's been a long time since I changed it. But another clue happened on the way home from work. I barley go out of the parking lot and bang, it did it. The car shut right off. But this time I left it in drive and turned the key a quarter turn as to not engaged the starter and the car re-fired right up and went on like it never skipped a beat. It happened 3 times on my way home. The same thing. This is getting very weird. Ignition switch??????????
I'm hearing the filter change is a B#@%$ to do. It dosen't look that bad of a fix though.
