Does anyone have a thread about removing an engine with pics? I have read whats in the FAQ and i know i can do it, but i just dont know what all has to be disconnected from the engine to get it out of the car. I have removed/installed my tranny before so I know can do the first half of it.

 

Not exactly sure what engine/tranny ur pulling...but this is the basics for most d series motors

First things first...you need to drain ur coolant

next, unhook ur wiring harness and move it to the side so its out of the way...unhook all of your ground wires....one on the front right and another one on the tranny. Unhook your power steering, throttle cable and gas line and any hoses that are connected to the motor...there should be 3-5 of these. Go ahead and hook up your engine puller to ur motor/tranny...take out the bolts on all of your engine mounts and slowely start to pull the motor/tranny out...while doing this, check to make sure that you have everything unhooked, you will be able to tell if you forgot something...if you missed something, the motor will get stuck and start to pull up the entire car...but try not to miss anything..obviously lol

well look at it and disconect eveything that is attached the it drrrrr and for the first time you might wanna label stuff so you now were it going wen putting it back.

do what i did, get 2, 3 ton jacks on both sides of the car skyjack it and drop the motor out the bottom onto a skateboard, yes a SKATEBOARD, dont need no Cherrypicker in my garage. you may need 3 guys to help you drop it down and extra boards just in case.

Also, if you dont have a skateboard...you could use a creeper...same principle....or basically...anything on wheels..haha

ok im gonna give this a try, i'll let you guys know how it goes down.

 

another good way is to use a stand and a lift and have the body just kinda raised off the engine. its a very easy way if you have a lift available. most people dont and most people dont have a cherry picker. another way is to use a skateboard and jack the car as high as you can and let the car down to where the one of the mounts line up and then you can use a floor jack to get the other mounts started.

That did help thanks. I've almost undone everything from the engine, the only things I have left are Axles, Shift linkage, and I've done both of those before when I changed my clutch. So I'm gonna search around for a cheery picker, and if it comes down to it i'll just rent one from the auto parts store. I haven't read much about this part yet, but how hard it it to do the accual PULLING of the engine?
