RCI engine diaper and oil return line dont get along!!!
ok so im looking at this contraption that is supposed to go on the motor to contain oil bla bla bla.....
its basically a 3-walled pad thats about 18x18 at the base and has 2 "walls" around 18' wide and 16' tall i dont see a prblem wrapping it around the rear...(bolt it up to intake manifold bolts)
but on the front i cant work around the oil return.....i thought of making a small hole to allow the -10 return to fit, but thats defeating the purpose...
plan b is on the frontside wrap the whole turbo/oil line section...(ramhorn manifold)....
any suggestions/ideas????

Tom from Camp1320 said punch a hole out and run the line through. The one Camp1320.com sells has a slit for the oil return line to slide into to. Hope this helps
p.s. If you know someone who does alterations ask them to sow up the cut so it doesnt keep unthreading

I thought that you can't make modifications to it or it won't be a certified unit anymore? Plus hows the hole going to keep oil in?
well its a nylon cover so if i do make a slit im sure i can get a lighter and burn the edges to prevent them from continuing to tear.......
so thanks guys a small 1 inch slit it is....
no longer a virgin...

I dont think they will not pass you for cutting the whole for the oil return..I spoke with several other guys that are planning on running the same blanket and thats what they did to..I'll worry bout this problem after i go 9.59 or better...thats a ways off yet for me..
Yea, real far off if you don't get your *** to work and get it running
Maybe they aren't so concerned with modding it. Who would be the guy to ask?

I had a diaper on this weekend, what a freaking pain in the butt. I just tied it to whatever i can.
Luckily it didn't wrap up on anything, but i was legal. 13 second car with an engine diaper, cracks me up.
VW makes a steel skid plate for rally cars and the diesel that bolts right up. I will be getting one of those instead and add some rails to it with some absorbant pads.
If you are on the fence between a diaper and pan, i would go with a pan!

E-mailed pat, this is his first responce...
The diaper or pan must cover the oil pan, and if a manual transmission
is used the transmission also. It must be able to contain the oil from
the engine and/or the transmission in the event of a failure. The return
lines do not need to be covered.

I e-mailed him again asking some more stuff. Asked him even avout modding the diaper, he didn't answer that the first time so we'll see what e-mail round two has in it.

DOH!
DOH!
I'm pretty sure that works for everything safety required. Like a helmet snell whatever rated loses it's cert as soon as you say....drill a hole in it to mount you beverage to the side of the helmet.
I just don't get how they make the rule to prevent something but let so much open...the return line doesn't need covered...ok so what happens if the clamp falls off or something and the return line comes off at 60ft and when will you notice this?....probably around 1/2-3/4 track, leaving a nice snail trail all the way down the track.
I see Howard soon mass producing these pans as a kit
you can use my car for mock up if you want
or James's since his isn't running either

Yea unforunatly there are some shaddy oil returns out there. -an stuff i see no problem with either, its the people that use garden hose and that stuff that i'd be worried about.
Bob,
You are correct; once you modify the diaper it would no-longer be
acceptable. The easiest thing for you to do would be to make your own
catch pan. At this time there are no specific materials it must be made
with. Unfortunately I do not have any photos to show you what other
racers have done. In the simplest way you could take a piece of sheet
metal bend the sides up, so that it would contain any fluids; and attach
it to the car with some type of quick fastener.

this is what i will be converting to, it weighs 20 lbs but it covers everything and with some diapers and some added rails i will have no issues.

BTW, if you do plan on winning, Stroud is a contingency sponsor if you run their diaper or tranny blanket!
