Default Do i need a new IAT sensor? *high idle and high temp read*

I have been looking through old posts and i think that i might need a new IAT sensor. MY car idles at 3,000 rmp when its cold and it goes down to 1000 when its warm. I have read that two different things could cause this the first being a vac leak and the second being the IAT sensor. My car doesnt read the temp correctly, once it gets warmed up it goes to the top of the temp guage like its overheating really bad. The guy who had the car before me said that it has been doing that for a while and that it wasnt really over heating. I got the radiator flushed recently and i havent seen any evidence of the car over heating. I have an 88 CRX b16 if that matters.

idling at 3000 when cold and ~1000 when warm is what is supposed to happen. that is the iat causing that and a sign that it is functioning correctly.

the temp guage needle being buried in the hot zone however is not right. you probably need to replace your temprature sending unit if the car really isnt overheating. but to be safe i would replace the thermostat, the radiator cap, and the temprature sending unit just so that you are sure it isnt overheating.

Thanks man i think i'll just replace all of those.

I have a have an 88 crx si with a b16 swap i assume that all those parts will be the same as the stock car because i know for sure that i have the stock radiator and shouldnt all the other cooling system stuf be the same too? Thanks.

radiator cap will be for the stock car, the thermostat and temperature sending unit youll have to get from whatever model del-sol had the b16 though, because they are parts attached to the block itself. i just hope you have enough clearance for the temperature sending unit to change it out.

the temp sending unit is right under the dizzy..really easy to get to just take the 3 bolts for the dizzy off and its right there..regular maint. is good but you might wanna diagnose what the problem is before you go replacing stuff like are the hoses getting warm? do you have fins missing in your radiator? is the water pump leaking? just stuff to think about it could also be the temp gauge on the cluster too, ive seen a couple of them go but i hope its an easy fix for ya good luck by the way it would be for a 94 del sol vtec that came with the b16
