I need all your help. Friends '97 R was stolen recently.
My friend '97 R was stolen recently from his office. He is the original owner. He's been driving it for years without any problems. But the longer you own an R, the higher percentage you have of it being stolen.
Either way, sorry for the rant.
His insurance company got two independent car dealerships in the area to give them an assessment on what this 1997 Type R is worth.
They came back with quotes of $4,700 - $5,200.
So that's what his insurance company wants to give him. Which I think is ridiculous.
The car had 144,000 miles on it. They recovered the car already. So the ball is rolling.
Oh btw, what's the shell worth if he buys it back?
Thank you for all your help!

what's your question? what is a 97r with 144k worth?
Best thing to do is find as many 97 r's for sale in your area as you can. Note the mileage and condition, and give the info to the insurance company.

Search nationwide for '97 R's for sale, and recent sales. The more documentation he can give to the insurance company, the better his luck will be.

How much did you finally settle with the insurance company for on your 97 ITR?
$5k is a joke!
I did a quick KBB using an Anaheim CA zip code and this is how it came back:

I also ran a 97 GSR and it came back with a $7700 value...

That price is obsurd! What insurance company is this? As others have stated, as much documentation as you can provide to the adjuster.
I'd really like to know what insurance company said this nonsense.

Their initial offer was something like $7900, but after about 2 1/2 months I think the final amount was somethng like 11K minus my deductable.
I had receipts for about $12K in parts, none of which was given virtually any consideration.

Sorry to hear, that price complete BS. Tell the insurance company to try again...

That amount is definetely off.
I am an adjuster for a major insurance provider and just today, I was writing a 97 Honda Accord Coupe and the ACV came to $5,400. I think I just totaled out a 96 Integra LS last week and the settlement was somewhere in the $7,000 neighborhood, if my memory serves me correctly.
The Integra is worth more than an Accord, let alone the GSR or ITR for that matter, so there is something missing.
Is that their settlement offer with your friend retaining the salvage? The beauty for us adjusters is that foreign cars fetch at good salvage value and it is usually a good determining factor when totalling them out, but it also drops the offer substantially when the owner retains salvage.
Good luck

if that was me this is what i would say:
5 grand....that okay.
The reason why i buy insurance is just incase something like this does happen, my car can be replaced. Im not buying insurance every month to have you guys pay me when something like this happens but to replace it with something comprable. SO get ur asses on the phones and go buy me one

when my R got stolen, they wanted to give me way less then it was worth. i got all the reciepts together, search autotrade.com and h-t for similar R's and gave the insurance company all the info i got. it also helped that i had my dad's business attorney call them. they eventually send the claim off to get assested by a private party guy. he came back with a much more reasonable offer and the insurance company paid more then they were orginally going to pay.
Hey if you want to sell the shell and you live around the bay are pm me. If its fully gutted im down to spen 2000to 2500, but only if it has 5 lug.
