Default Speed Sensor Cable just won't go in!

ok i have a 91 civic 4 door and just finished a Sohc ZC vtec swap into it and im using my stock 5speed dx tranny... after all the long work of doing DPFI to MPFI and almost rewiring my car due to various wiring problems i got it going with no check engine lights minus a speed sensor code...when i go to look to see if it is in....we forgot to put the cable in! doh! now trying to put the sensor cable back it it just won't go in! i have pushed extremely hard and it just won't go in... when we took it out it slipped out perfectly fine when we backed off the rubber boot but now it just won't go in its really pissing me off because this is preventing my vtec from engaging soo i was told...can anyone help me out on how to put this lil thing in? is there some special way?

and my friend has a 91 SI and says his speed sensor cable looks totally different from mine and his just pops in when he pushes on it...mine has like a lil tiny flat nipple on the side and he says his kinda has a feather on the end and no side nipple but i thought this was because his is a SI...am i right?

they are a big bitch to line up the cable with the housing sometimes. i changed my gear the other week and it was a big bitch to get back in, i ended up taking the sensor out of the tranny, connecting the cable to it that way and putting it back in as an assembly.
