Default JDM SiR EG6 cluster discussion!

Howdy everyone...

I just recently picked up an EG6 cluster to use in my Coupe, and before I use it, I have seen/heard things about the downsides to using one of these things. Obviously, a concern is that it read kilometers as opposed to miles, however I can live with that.

My main concerns are that:

1. These are usually very dim at night because of the lack of a dim feature in Japan.
2. The plastic cover is pretty scuffed from the journey from Japan to the USA.

Before I begin to address these, I figured I'd ask around and see if anyone has been through the same issues...? First, for issue one, I think I'd like to try to retro fit each gauge assembly into my stock '93 EX housing. The far backside of the paneling looks slightly different, but hopefully it will enable the dimmer to work...?

Secondly, the shape of the facia and clear plastic cover look the same from my EX to the SiR... has anyone tried to interchange these parts? Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

- Louis

I do not know about #1...but in reference to #2, i can guarentee you that any usdm cluster cover/face piece will work on/cover a jdm eg6 cluster, no problems.. ...had it like that myself...

this is not entirely true.

on the usdm cluster bezel (the black outline and the clear cover as one piece) will have a plastic clear ring around the three gauge openings. this is so the usdm light dimming effect is around each gauge.

on the jdm cluster bezel there is no clear ring on any of the gauge openings.

so if you put the usdm bezel on top of a jdm cluster, you will have about 4mm gap between the bezel and the gauges themself.

so when you put the usdm bezel over the jdm cluster it will be loose and flimsy due to this added space between the bezel and the gauge contact.

if your not sure what i mean i can take photos to show you.

So the concensus is that the actual JDM gauges are smaller in diameter...?

No, I think the depth of the gauges or the housings are different.

I will take measurements tonight and post them up... I will also try to retro the JDM gauges inside of the EX housing and cover and will post pictures of those results as well...
