Default Drag Car Build

Updated 11-14-06

First time to the 1/4
10.7 @ 127 on 14 psi, stock B17A1 motor.

Well this is posted in the forced induction forum, but I find in more appropriate to be in here. I am getting close to getting my drag car completed and need some advice from a few of the more experienced in the scene. I will start with the background on the car and motor from my other thread.

Block
B16A2 Block bored/honed
B16A2 crank polished
Arias 81.5mm pistons with coating
Eagle H-beams with ARP rod bolts
ACL bearings
ARP headstuds
ITR oil pump
New water pump
OEM headgasket
Blox intake manifold
B16 Throttle Body

Drivetrain
JDM GSR Tranny
Lightened flywheel
Clutch Specialties 6-puck unsprung clutch

Head

B17 head
95 GSR cams
UGR Cam Gears

Turbo setup
Precision SC34
RLD-Fab Ramhorn Manifold Kit ( welded by Dave )
Tial 38mm gate
990CC injectors
Custom 9" intercooler
Tial BOV
Stealthmode oil line kit and oil gauge kit

well here are some pics of the motor build. Just did this today. This one went a lot smoother than the first one I built.

Nice clean block

Arias with the Eagles on there.. damn spiral retaining clips are a pain in the ***.

Work station

Everything installed, picture of the crank.

Bottom end is done, minus the accesories.

The motor is in the car!! Everything went smooth, now I just have to finish the turbo kit and mount the intercooler and figure out where and how I want to route things. I think I am doing a custom backdoor intecooler and there will only be 4 connections. Turbo -> intercooler, then intercooler -> TB. Because of the fiberglass front end I believe I can do that.

More to come this weekend when I go home to finish off the turbo kit.

Ok. The time has come to do my downpipe and finish of the chassis. I have two options for the downpipe. I am building the car for quick 16 spec or something similar and just want to either run local time runs or a quick 16 like class.
1) Side Exit behind passenger tire
2) Turn down exit right past or under the firewall

I need to strap my fuel cell down a lot better than it is now. It is a 5 gallon summit cell. So I guess just get the straps and tie it down. BUt I also though of moving it to the front of the car. The battery sits on the passenger side wheel well area and to even the weight I thought of mounting the fuel cell there and putting the battery to the other side. Just a thought though.

I also need to patch a HOLE in the firewall where the fuel cell was originally going to go. I assume i need to weld a steel plate in, how thick does it have to be?

Well enough of the questions. If you guys have any suggestions please let me know. I am finishing this car off. It was Mikie's car from whiplashdvd.com stuff. He is a real good friend of mine and he isn't using the car any more so I am taking it over. The chassis is pretty much complete minus the things I mentioned I have to do.

Also the car is going in for paint very soon. It is going to be a metalic red color.

Updated

Got the interior done. Hitting the Dyno and track this saturday at the beaver springs meet.

Thanks.

I just thought of something else. I need to get the windows out of the door and the back hatch. All others are lexan. Do they make a kit for them?

Nice setup man. What kind of power are looking to make and what times are you trying to run with it?

On stock sleeves I am going to keep it under 400 and just shoot for mid-low 11s with it for now.

I am sleeving the block and upgrading the turbo for next year, atleast that is the plan for now. I have to see what happens this year first.

From the looks of it that car is pretty light, get it tuned to around 400-420whp i think you could go 10's with it.

Yep. I say that somewhere up there.

Me and Mikie are pretty good friends. I tuned the car when he had it and helped with the turbo setup.

The car is very light, all the under coating is off of it, he flipped it over and scraped it off haha. Its the lightest car I have ever seen.

Also tuning won't be an issue.

1. side exit in FRONT of the passenger tire

2. the holes in the fire wall can be covered over with sheetmetal.

3. call kens kustom chassis or any chassis shop, window center in your area for lexan. you just have to get a big sheet of it and cut your windows to "spec" if you want, i can trace my rear window onto oaktag, and send it out to you.

the stuff you want is made by GE, and its called MR-10

check the NHRA rulebook for specified thickness allowed @ each window.

I can't exit in front because the battery sits there.

Thanks a ton for the info. I have a local glass shop in my area I will go to and see what they can do.

Maybe I will see you around at some of the tracks.

Started the car. It has 0 oil pressure. The oil filter is full of oil, we went to take it off and it poured out. But my turbo feed line isn't getting any oil and the head looks to be getting some oil, but not a whole lot.

oil squiters > Me and my B-series vtec knowledge

I only thougt the 1.8 vtecs had the squiters since this B16 didn't come with them.. I didn't even notice the holes.

None the less the problem is fixed.

Everything is ready to go. When I go back home in two week, I am hopefully hitting the dyno for some break in time.

I need a set of axles.

Give me a hand in this decision. I know it has been covered. But I am looking at gator or DSS.
