Honda Element - How to beef one up
My cousin is in the market for an Element. He really likes it and it would suit him well, seeing as he has two dogs and makes Home Depot runs on a consistent basis.
I'd like to know what he can do to the Element to make it a little stronger. He doesn't want to install an exhaust that is going to make the Element sound 'aftermarket'. Rather, he's looking for something like a chip and other small things that can allow the motor to put out more power. He isn't trying to race it or anything like that. Simply trying to see what more can be done to get more than 165hp and 160ft/lbs tq. out of the Element.
Since I'm not too keen on the Element, or it's motor specifically, I don't know where to begin.
Can anyone point us in the right direction?

Ehh...If he doesn't want a loud exhaust, what makes you think he wants a turbo system on this thing?
He's looking for something to make it a little stronger, not a track beast.
Are their any chips available for it?

most of the honda engines do not respond well to NA mods, they cost too much, and have little return in power.
a simple turbo or a SC kit will not make the car louder, keep it legal and give a nice bump in power

what does he want to do w/ it that he needs to beef it up? I own one and can tell you that going to Home Depot is not a problem..In the 2 months I've owned it, I've loaded it down pretty good and it does okay. He has to understand that it's not an F 150, but it can take a whole lot of stuff inside of it...
***Disclaimer*** Honda only says that it's load rating is only 675 lbs, which is crap IMO. It's b/c of the shitty tires it comes w/, which barely hold the weight of the vehicle. If he buys one new (or one that has the OEM tires on it), I'd recommend new tires (preferably LT, if he can stand the noise), as I myself am looking to get ASAP.
Hit me up if you have anymore ?'s...I'm still learning about it too....

There is a new version coming out in 2007 that has factory 18's, is lowered, 2wd only, and with more HP/Tq. (same 2.4L though). I do not know numbers, but this I heard from an engineer at Honda in Ohio, who is a lifelong friend. He could wait for that to come out.
We have an '05 AWD Element and absolutely love it!!

Great post Jason, thanks.
Dog hair, mud, drywall, splinters, are all bad for rugs. He wants the Element because the floor is rubber and he can easily wash all that stuff from the inside.
The reason for wanting some more power out of it is that he travels to the mountains frequently and needs/wants something with a little more power than what he has now, with what I mentioned before (ease of cleaning, etc.).
The Element would be a convenient choice for him. He rented a Jeep Cherokee once and had problems with it in the snow heading up to the mountains. He fears that with the Element, it would perform worse than the V8 Cherokee did in that kind of weather and terrain.
He's also looking into the 240hp Pathfinder but like I said earlier, he's more interested in the Element because it's more ideal for what he has (dogs, home depot, etc.) and will be easy to clean.

if he is going to home depot and has 2 dogs, why does he need more then 165hp/160tq? I think the element will do fine. Unless he hauling mad ****, and both doggs are way to big for the element to haul. If he wants a work truck, then tell him to buy a chevy, ford, doge not a plastic box.
I say dont do **** to it, it's an element......get some new tires, save his money, and drive it. just my 2 cents.

i think an RSX jackson racing kit should fit.
these four piston engines should all come supercharged on the "trucks" honda makes.

I think he's on to something! My buddy has a Ford F-250 Super Duty (Diesel) and the truck is used for roofing (it has a rack) and other various construction stuff. It has MASSIVE room on the inside (4 door and I'm 6ft 2) and you can't hear roadnoise or engine noise other than the boost from the turbo at full throttle.
