Default bad vibration...

1992 Integra GSR...everything stock (just lowered on Tein S-Tech's...1.2" lower?)...

k, so last week i desided it was time to replace my axle cuz the inner boot was torn and im getting a clunk from the front end, figure its a good place to start...

the inner cup WONT come out of the intermate shaft, and yes we have tried... so i stole another "SK7" shaft from my buddies house when we couldnt seperate mine. threw that in and slid in my brand new (NOT remaned) axle in. took it for a spin up the block and i get a vibration...

vibration: under heavy load (more than 50% throttle) its just slight, but you get to ~50 to 60mph it vibrates like all hell (like the wheels are gonna fall off...yes they are torqued down properly) then dissapears... i can cruise at 80mph...umm i mean the speed limit... with no problem, no vibration unless i smash back on the throttle to "pass" the i get a little vibe... also, nailed a hard long right hander under load....big vibration like the wheels were hoppin...

things tried: both sets of my wheels, tighting the intermiate shaft, torquing all the lugnuts, takin out the seal on the end of the axle, and using a different axle nut...

any more ideas?

maybe your buddys intermediat is bad. sound like the only logical explanation to me. i have the same problem with getting my axle comming out of the intermediat shaft. i just took the whole thing out (axle with intermediate) and shot some penetrating oil. then got a mallet and beat the **** out the axle to seporate the two. might be worth a try

yeah we beat the living **** out of the intermidate shaft... think i will grab my bigger hammer and head back over to his place and put it in the vise again, he has more weight to throw behind it

my roommate thinks its the intermidate shaft.... thinking it might be a bad axle off the shelf??

ball joint may be the clunk, but i doubt the vibration...

i doubt you got a bad axle out of the box. just get that old axle out of the intermediat shaft and put that one back in and im sure your problem will be fixed

That vibration sounds alot llike my friends car ( although he hasn't replaced an axle or anything recently) .. under load from a stop or from a roll. The problem comes and goes on his car which i thought was really weird.
bump for some help

so...i just got back from the alingment shop... been noticing a pull to the left, think the construction in the area owned my alignment...

shitloads of camber (no camber kits) and some nice toe in

"Rack & Pinion - excisive movement" and "Recommend: camber kits"

on the drive back i noticed....that i didnt notice as much vibration from the car. i assume thats because it doesnt have a shitload of toe in now and its not putting stress on the rack? did notice it a little bit more on the decelleration though...

so my rack is bad??? how the **** does my rack get all shitty from being jacked up in my driveway for a week? it didnt have any vibration before i parked it to swap the axle (then the intermiate shaft) out...

dude replace that intermediate shaft. your symtoms are classic sign of the inner joint going bad, in your case its the intermedaite shaft. its seem like common sense to me. thats the only piece you changed out that wasnt new. not to mention the classic signs of a bad inner joint or intermediate shaft.

i dont know if you got the alignment because of the vibration issue or not. but if you did, stop throwing money in your ride that is not nessesary. (im not saying this wasnt needed because obviously it was because of your toe). atleast try the intermediate shaft before you spend any more money on anything else. its not as bad as you think. its just gonna take some time seporating your old intermediate shaft from the old axle.

well i didnt get the alingment done to solve this problem, i did it to solve the toe in problem. i noticed the car pulling a little left, and it wore my inner front tires real nice. so i swapped the rears to the fronts then got it alinged asap. i didnt expect anything to come of this in the vibration department. plus its a "lifetime alignment" so i can go back anytime i want to do it again...
