Manual transmission Oil Preference?
Anyone have a preference of manual transmission oil? People tell me GM and Redline.. but i went to the store to buy one or the other, to find out 91 integra trannys actually just use reg. oil! So whats up with that. Do i just use reg. oil? or should i go redline? What weight of redline too?
The old honda manuals say to use regular oil, but after honda developed its own MTF, the manuals now say to use that. I looked a long time on what to use and most people are happy with hondas mtf or the gm syncro mesh. I personally used the royal purple mtf cause its all i could find. I am happy with it, it is easier to find first and reverse now when it is cold. However, my old fluid had like 70,000 miles on it, so i think any new fluid would have been a good change.

^^^ what he said. On a good tranny you won't notice a difference between syncromesh and honda mtf. Just change what ever oil often, I do it every 24k km or 15k miles.

I'd like to see who has claimed this happening. My guess is they probably used MT90 and not regular Redline MTL.
<== has run GM Synchromesh Friction Modified for 60K+ miles
You can easily go 20K-25K between tranny fluid changes. The last time I changed my GM fluid, the old stuff had a little over 20K miles on it and it looked nearly brand new coming out.

10w30 if you have to in a pinch. Otherwise use Honda MTF or GM Synchromesh as has been stated several times.

Alrite so i do hav grinds on 5th nd my shifts are getting laggy (but that could be due to ymy broken right hand nd it has a cast..) but i when i try to shift fast it kinda grinds... so Redline? GM? or Honda?

Have you checked the fluid level lately? If it's low it can cause 5th to scratch sometimes.
I say go w/ GM SM Friction Modified if you can afford it ($8-$11/qt. at most places I think). Otherwise just try some Honda MTF and see if it still grinds. Make sure the car is level (on the ground or on 4 jackstands) when you fill the tranny, otherwise you won't get the correct amount in there before it starts to run out of the filler hole.

i recently just did this on my tranny about 2 weeks ago and i found teh same thing about the motor oil too so i went with what the book said and put regular oil in it and it feels great now no problems at all and even though the old fluid had about 100k on it....haha still feels like a dream!

The labels on my bottles say 1 #12377916 (not sure if that first 1 is part of the number but it's on there before the # sign).

For clutch type LSD the Ford LSD additive to what ever tranny fluid of your choice seems to work well with my friend's KAAZ. Way less chatter on turns with the Ford additive than with the original KAAZ fluid.
For Quaife and other helical type LSD's no special fluid is necessary.

Visually the fluid looks good everytime no matter what mileage. There's no heat and no combustion by products for the tranny oil to deal with. Because of the constant shearing of the fluid and whatever additives will wearing down so I recommend earlier that factory intervals. Plus the tranny feels so good after some fresh fluid.

But with the GM fluid it feels good all the time.
In my experience I have not felt any difference between GM SM FM w/ 20K miles on it vs. brand new fluid, and I've changed it twice now since I started using it.
