questions about clutches!...help!
ok so..my dad took my car out two weekends in a row..and i think he killed my clutch (we have a pretty steep driveway..
)
anyways.... i have a completely stock motor, and it feels like my clutch isnt grabbing like it used to. The guy that i bought my car from said that he put a stage 2 clutch in..but i dunno what brand or anything...
MY question is... how would i know if my clutch is close to being dead?..and should i go for an OEM setup?..or aftermarket?..i dont drive fast (95% of the time my gsr motor doesnt see anything past 3500rpm)..and i rarely race it.
how much would an OEM setup cost?..and feel? COMPARED to an after market setup? (any brands i should consider?)
Thanks a lot guys..i tried searching about oem clutches..but nothing..

If you don't have to go aftermarket, I recommend you don't. People will disagree with me on this, but a stiffer pedal feel and harsh engagement is not fun for traffic. Based on what you are saying about your driving habits, an OEM replacement should be just fine. An OEM replacement should be around $600 parts and labor.
will OEM last longer than your average aftermarket clutch setups?
OEM compared to exedy,act...etc.
thanks for responding!...but im in shock about the dam price! ouch!
should i go to honda and let them do this? or buy it from honda/acura and bring it somewhere else?

600 aint too bad.. dont forget about labor. labor rates vary wherever u go.. honda dealer charges close too 100 an hour i believe.. as do most dealers.. where as a side shop usually charges around 55 or 60 an hour, etc..
also depends what flat rate time they are charging for.., etc
up too you on the clutch choice.. but a stiff *** pedal isnt fun in bumber too bumper traffic

well..supposedly i already have a stage 2 clutch (thats what the previous owner told me..) and its not too bad..the pedal isnt that stiff..but stop and go traffic does suck!
Das Schmoo said that it would be $600 parts AND labor...right?..meaning $600 to buy the clutch AND have it installed.. or did i interpret this wrong?..

go with an aftermarket high performance setup? even with a stock motor and granny style driving?
can you explain your reasoning? wont the ride be kinda harsh for daily driving, non racing and occational transporting of the parents..?

ok..well ive been thinking about this..and i think im gonna get maybe a stage 2 again..(better safe than sorry eh?)
so what options do i have? brands? what comes with a clutch kit? and whats the best-least aggressive aftermarket clutch? (does that make sense?)
i just want an aftermarket clutch thats pretty close to stock feel but can handle occasional abuse...and where can i order one? Thanks in advance guys!

oem clutch will be able to handle abuse on a stock/lightly modded engine.
It's when you start making more power, I'd say 180+, that you might want to consider upgrading your clutch setup.
Just get an oem/exedy replacement.
And are you going to be using the same flywheel, and pressure plate?

What mods do you have? If only bolt ones then go for the stage 1 replacement. I just put in a Exedy Stage 1 and it grabs much harder with slightly heavier effort. Stock like clutch take up. Stage 2 will come with the same pedal effort however the material may cause shudder during take up... not good for stop and go traffic.
OEM clutch disc had plenty of meat left however the springs in the hub were loose and a piece of the hub broke off and was floating around. I'll never get a OEM clutch disc because of this. Do a search, this seems to be a common problem.

it sounds like the exedy stage 1 would be the best thing for me right now..
another noob question though.. when i order the exedy stage 1..what will it come with? and where can i find it for cheap?
should i upgrade flywheel and pressure plate?..dont they come with the cluth assembly?...once again, sorry for the noob questions. I just dont want to get ripped off or anything. Thanks for responding guys!

Definitely go with the exedy stage 1 clutch. Stock feel and slightly better holding power than stock. I drove around on mine for about 4,000 miles then had it boosted for another 2,000(hard driving) miles after that. When I took it out to put my new clutch in it looked like brand new. Engagement was smooth as can be and pedal pressure was very light. I wouldn't put anything else in a stock/slightly modified integra that would be daily driven.
I've got a lighly modded 95 dc2 and i bought a stg III with an 8lb flywheel from LSD motorsports and i paid $455 for the clutch pilot bearing, throw-out bearing, plate, and flywheel. I have zero complaints other than the occasional harsh drivability which i knew was gonna be a consequence before i bought it. But im planning on making 215 at the wheels shortly so i could still have gone stgII but im the kind of person who likes to overkill.
i belive its about $255 for a stg1 complete setup $300 with a flywheel(off the top of my head)
if your not an aggressive driver i'd say just stay with a street disk setup, not only are you not making enough power to utilize a stg II but you obviously still want the driveability of an oem.

Exedy clutch comes with clutch cover (pressure plate), clutch disc, release bearing and pilot bearing. A new flywheel will reduce downtime that's required to resurface the old flywheel. I got my stuff from one of the vendors in the sponsors marketplace.
If you don't plan on making any significant power increase, I'd recommend that you stick with something very close to stock.
These people recommending aftermarket higher clamping force clutchs are on crack. That is way too much and will make your driving experience (worse yet in traffic) very agrivating to say the least.
There are a few guys who are on the same page as I am. Seriously anything other than a mild clutch ***. will only irritate you.
