Whats better???
Honestly, there is more to a header then a 4-2-1 or 4-1. With todays better header manufacturers (SMSP, RMF, Hytech, etc) you can get a 4-2-1 with some characteristics of a 4-1 and vice versa. Depending upon: tubing sizing, collector length, "stepped" design, "reversion", and sequentially and non-sequentially paired primaries.

Not neccisarily, it usually depends on the design. Tri-Y config or box collector. Usually a box style collector usually is bigger in width/height therefore causing it to more likely bottom out.

I belive the mag is called "Turbo" or something like that ( in the mag section of Walmart, no comments please
) and they do a test on the following headers:
Dc Sports 4-2-1
DC sports 4-1
ITR
... I forget the other (wow, how helpful am I???)
Anyway, they have the dyno's of all of them and the DC sports 4-1 was the best out of the other 3, as far as low-mid power and was only 1 hp behind the leader (DC 4-2-1) for the highest hp.
BUT, it all depends on your application and what you're looking for.
Do you want more high end hp or more low-mid hp and torque?Remember, evry engine is different and your engine package may have diff. needs as far as the header than someone elses.
The test, BTW, was on a b18c5 w/headwork, 173 hp 110 tq
