93 CX/LS...overheating...what to look for?
the radiator was low, but i topped it off, and the radiator fan isn't coming on when the car is sitting and idling for a period of time. what do i need to check out? thermostat? water pump? is a stock CX radiator good enough to properly cool a b18b1? i just bought the car with the swap already in it, and i don't exactly know what to look for
BTW, the car drove/ran fine on the 200 mile highway trip, but as soon as i got into the city and started in the stop and go traffic it started to get hot. what should i look for? thanks.

check the fan fuse...it might have blown....because when you are on the highway your traveling fast enough so the fan doesnt need to work.....
i had this same thing happen to me about a year ago

when you had the car idling and the fan wasnt on, had you been driving it prior or did you just turn it on?
Becuase the fan wont come on for awhile until the engine gets warm enough I think.
Was your A/C on in the city? My engine heats up like a **** in the summertime with A/C on unless Im driving on the highway.

no,didn't run the a/c at all. i had been driving probably 50-60 miles on the highway at 75mph straight...we pulled into a gas station, and while the car was idling the temperature just started climbing up really steep, and the fan never came on..even when it was getting hot. that's what worried me. where is the fan fuse? under the hood somewhere i presume since i didn't see anything inside the car? i'm also worried cuz i'm in texas and it'll easily get 100 in the summer, and this was at night at around 60 degrees
he just said that the fan came on at idle in the city
think about it for a while then reply jack ***

you need first to take the air out off the system. open the raditor cap and let the car run but watch the needle. what i do is jack the car up on both side in the front and run the car with the cap off that way all the c\air get's out of the system. check also the raditor hose if the bottom hose is cold but the car is overheating. that means that the thermostat is stuck closed. but if both is hot and the fan still does not come on. there are two problems you can loom at. the fan relay or fuse or the switch i is faulty. hope this helps.
i had the same problem. i just hooked up the switch to my fan so when im city driving i just flip the switch and when on the freeway i just turn it off. If you dont want to do that just check the fan fuse if thats ok change the thermostat or the fan switch (the one that activates the fan to turn on when it reaches a certain temperature. Have no idea what the proper name is

Same thing was happening to me with my stock DX motor. It ended up being the fan switch, which is located on the thermostat housing on my car. Not sure where it is on your LS motor. My car hasn't overheated since I've replaced that fan switch. HTH
Mugen, are you talking to me about getting a new car? what is that supposed to mean?
anyway, I checked the fan fuse, it's good...but i don't know how to tell if a relay has gone bad or not....is it more trouble than it's worth to try to check it, or should i just go ahead and buy a new one anyway....I mean they're not *that* expensive. Or if that checks out, how do I determine if it's the 'switch' or not? Thanks for the responses guys!
