Whats the difference between USDM and JDM?

What is the difference? I'm planning on getting a B16a2 and was wondering how the JDM motor is different fom the USDM motor.

usdm b16's only had 10.2 compression ratio, JDM had 10.2 untill 91-92 then they had 10.4

and if your state has rules that you cannot swap a motor older then your car a b16a2 is lovely..

however if you do not rules against swapping a japanese motor b16a is nice
