Default First Post...New Project (Update @ bottom of 1st post)

Hey all, this is my first post here on HT and I figured I would post up some pics of my new project. First a little history of how I got it. I traded a low mileage Y8, some CRX seats, some supra tail lights, a dpfi engine harness and some stereo work for this:

It was Z6 swapped and needed to be wired for vtec and 4 wire O2. I did some general maintenance on it, bought some partial quarter replacements (but did not install them), put in a new clutch and new intake manifold gasket and sold it for $2500

I then bought this at a local salvage yard:

I believe the previous owner hit a deer as there was deer hair stuck in the bumper and there was blood and fat all over the underside of the car

I put on a new OEM core support, got some used stock headlights and put a new OEM bumper cover on it and ended up with this:

I paid $1600 for the car from the salvage yard and it took about $520 in parts to put it back together body wise and have a new windhshield installed. I had to replace an O2 sensor and it will need a new radiator because the old one is crooked and has the mounting tab broke off, but it does not leak. It won't get new airbags, I made a replacement cover for the passenger side one, might go with the tray later and I will replace the steering wheel with a Momo wheel. I guess the beauty of the whole thing is that I had next to nothing into it because I used the money from the sale of the EG to fund it and I had next to nothing into that. I would say that I have about $1k out of pocket into it. Needs more work, but that's what projects are for. Might have to sell my EF in order to fund some upgrades, but I really need to get moving on my SR swap in my 240sx.

*********UPDATE STARTS HERE*********

Ok, I finally made a little more progress on my EK. I decided to part ways with my EF (I will miss her) so I could use the money to buy some parts for the EK and my 240SX. I ordered the "Type R" front lip, rear lip and grille from JDMShit.com and I also ordered some OEM style amber foglights from ebay (I hate ebay, but nobody had them in stock and guess what, I still have not got them). I also mounted up some 205/50/15 Nitto NeoGens on my Trak Lites and bolted them up. I am now debating between the full Skunk2 coilover set up or the OmniPower's, but until I can make up my mind and afford them, I threw on a low-buck sleeve/spring kit to give her a better stance. I also got a DC Sports short throw shifter and Skunk 2 shift **** for my birthday Picked up a used AEM CAI from a friend, but I cannot stand the whistling sound it makes under part throttle I also have the paint and reducer to get everything matched up. Not sure which way to go....paint all trim, including lips, just paint the moldings and handles, or leave it all black??? Anyway....enough babbling, on with the pics (sorry, they aren't the greatest either).

peace
Griff

Oh yea, I picked up a new turbo manifold, turbo extension, cometic head gasket and ARP head studs for the SR going into my 240, hope that schtuff gets here soon

I don't know about hustlin' , but I do like how finding a good deal feels I had bought black integra interior for the EG, but I did not include that with it when I sold it. I will be puttin that in sooner or later and I have some 15" flat black Motegi Trak Lites that the wifey bought be for Xmas. Can't wait to get this puppy inspected on next Friday so I can get her out on the road.

Yea, I think I will do some basic exterior mods like the Type R front and rear lips and possibly the spoiler. I want the OEM style driving lights also. Definately need some kind of altitude adjustment to go with the wheels. I have a brand new set of KYB AGX's that were purchased for my EF, but I might see if I can trade them in on some for this car and purchase a set of Skunk 2 coilovers or something along that lines. I have everything I need to do a basic turbo set-up on it, I would just need to get an OBD2a to OBD1 conversion harness. I also have a Y8 head laying around. I dunno, maybe just turbo the Y7 till I can afford to go LS or GSR. Just have to see how things work out. I did install door lock actuators and a Clifford 2 way alarm today...gotta try and scare off the thieves

Nice come up but I would have looked for another EG or fixed the first one if it was worth it. Im not a fan of Ek's really. Still a good deal you got. Some people are real **** about wether or not a car is salvaged. I personally dont care as long as the frame is straight and there isnt major body damage.

Yea, I really like the EG too and the other one was worth fixing up, but I could not pass up the money I got for selling it. Also, I had someone offer me $900 more than what I paid for this car before I even got it home from the yard. The more I look at pics of EK's, the more they grow on me. I would still like to have a clean EG and a clean Rex for that matter, lol.

Thanks guys. I am thinking real hard about selling my EF in order to fund modding the EK. I have had the EF for 6+ years though, and I really love that little go-kart. I'm going to have to get this car out on the road and see what it is like before I can make that decision though.

It's not the straightest body, there is a dent in the driver door and of course some other miscellaneous dings, but it is pretty clean for a bone yard car I def have to pain the the bumper and the hood and I would like to get the dent in the door taken care of, I am just concerned about it matching. I think that will be the main factor in me deciding to leave all the trim and lips black, that way I won't have a bunch of mismatched paint.

ah, i see them now, still very clean, paint looks to be in good shape, w/ a buff it would match fine if they mix the color right. find a sherwin williams, they have a tool that they actually stick on your car and it takes a pic and tells them what to mix to make it match perfectly. hella good deal. keep us updated.

Yea, I know they have that tool to "meter" the paint, but one of the guys I know came into my shop with a gallon of paint in my color code and a gallon of reducer and said "a gift from me to you" so the paint was free and since I had previously gote a quote from a local supplier and knew the price, I was not about to turn down the free paint. I think if I can a competent enough painter, he should be able to blend it well enough. Just have to wait and see how it turns out.
