Your opinion of motor Oil?
I probably should wait until 5,000 miles to change my oil in my '06 Si, but right now i'm at 2,500 and want to change it. I think it will be fine, my car has been broken in. Right now i'm leaning towards Mobil 1 synthetic (the 15,000 mile protection) or Royal purple. Also, what do you guys think for an oil filter, is K&N oil filters any good
well, that's a good thread for breaking in, but i guess i really don't care about that too much, i'm confident my car is broken in at 2,500 miles
i'd like just opinions on what synthetic oils are good and oil filters, everyones got an opinion, my opinion is that i'm leaning towards royal purple motor oil, with a k&n oil filter

I'm assuming you would take mobil 1 over royal purple, but why? i think royal purple is real good oil

i will have to agree with you, royal purple is great, when i used it in my '99 civic ex, it's the only oil i've ever used where i said "this engine is running differently" the car just felt better IMO.
okay, but why? what are your reasons for mobil 1? I like royal purple because not only does it protect, but it makes your car FEEL a lot different

Why do you want to change it early? You're just wasting oil.

And according to Honda they use a special blend in the factory fill for break in, and they STRONGLY recommend you leave it for 10k. I am an oil change freak, and I left mine in for 5k.

I saw 5quarts of mobil 1 syn going for 20.94 at walmart and 25.94 for the extended mobil 1 syn. Its in a big bottle lol. Aside from that you can change your oil anytime before 5000 miles like the bottle says unless you are just breaking your car in. I would change it before 5000 miles because I don't reach that much in a 6 month period and I change my oil every 6 months.
That's another vote for Mobil 1 from me. I had a Volvo 850 with over 220k miles on it, which I've always used Mobil 1 and I swear by it that the car ran smooth beyond belief. People usually didn't believe me that it was such a high mileage car until they saw the odometer themselves.
I use original Honda oil...it's still made by Mobil One. but cost $1.96 a quart. It's not synthetic though. But I'm a true believer that you shouldn't really use anything that the manufactur doesn't recommend. Not unless of coarse you're boosting or something along the lines, then I would go for sythetic. But if you have a stock car, or even just bolt-on's regualr oil should do right as long as you change it as often as you need too. Engines these days are designed with some awesome technology, and I don't think the need for some expensive oil is needed unless you put stuff that's not intended to for the original set-up of the engine. hence..boost or all-motor tuning. Otherwise regular organic oil should be ok, but always use original Honda filters. If you get your oil changes at the dealerships, they don't use sythetic anyway. And Honda put's a special marker in their oil also. So if you blow your engine and want a warrenty claim, they can see if you were using Honda oil or not. Or so I've heard..can someone please confirm me on this?
honda says there is absolutely no benefit in changing your oil before the specified interval (for my civic that is 5000 in extreme conditions)
I say always use Honda oil myself, but I think Mobil1 and RP will do fine.

I always use genuine Honda filters and oil. Any important element that concerns the motor deserves OEM in my opinion. And like a couple others have mentioned changing it before reccomended is a waste of oil..
