Default Driving with oil leak?

Ok, so I am pretty sure that the seals are bad and leaking oil, but the car still runs and drives fine. After a few minutes of driving, smoke starts coming out from under the hood.

What I want opinions on is driving about 45 minutes to where I am going to be doing the engine swap....think I can make it? If I just fill with oil and not drive like an idiot, what are my chances of getting there (with smoke coming out)

as long as you top it off before you start and its not gushing out, youll be fine. if you pass a cop and your car is smoking like a house fire, you may have an issue.

Mechanically you will be fine. If you do get pulled over (its DC, i doubt you will), just explain your on your way to your mechanic to get it worked on. They shouldn't blink twice, and just to get it fixed. Worst case scenario you'll get a fix it ticket (if they even do those in DC), and when you go to the CHP station after you fixed it, they'll just write it off. Either way, no biggy

It will be like real early Sunday morning, so hopefully no bacon will be on the road

My 93 has been leaking oil like that for the past 5months, I work at valvoline and just keep getting it topped off. I have to do it that way until I can afford the h22 swap. And yes, Smoke comes from my hood, all it is...is oil dripping on hot parts of your engine/exhaust. Anyone know where it might be coming from? Its on the drivers side, and its from the back side of the engine....

I have the exact same problem with an oil leak falling onto my header. But I can't locate the leak. Any input would be awesome.

in all the above cases it is probably:
1 - oil pressure sending unit
2 - o-ring behind the oil cooler inlet where the filter screws on

#2 is common on 5th gens...but im assuming same goes for 4th however usually if that ring is bad you know, cause all ur oil will come out at once...(theres alot of pressure there)

I had the same problem, I have a h22a and it was burning oil like crazy. It was pretty sad, I'll drive in the rain and the smoke was horrible. I just looked around and I found the leak. Just like he said behind the oil cooler. Just check it out it might be the same thing.

When I pull the engine, I will tear down and take pics....I am pretty sure the leak is coming from the side of the engine where the balance shfts are.

I am not sure if the dude I got the car from ever had the bal. shaft retainer put in (the Honda recall). If the leak is not there then it is in the back and I will dig around to see.

most common oil leaks on ludes, are improperly installed engines, and o-rings =p

my balance shaft seal went out on my last month. I don't think that's your problem, though. When mine went, my car lost 3qts of oil in less than a couple of minutes.

Don't with it leaking oil if it is getting anywhere near the header.

Just a few months ago my buddy had his JRSC'd Miata's engine bay go up in flames from a small oil leak that got onto his header.

That being said, I drove around for about 2 weeks in my MR2 w/ the valve cover gasket sucked in and leaking over a quart a day down onto the exhaust, and made it out in one piece. YMMV.
