Default high rpm miss

hey guys,

I just did a couple of 7000+ rpm runs down a stretch of empty road today, just to give her. Car pulls to about 5500rpm (when Vtec kicks in) strong.. but as it goes to 7000+, the car starts missing a bit. Went through 1st and 2nd gear, and had the same symptoms. I was at wide open throttle all the way, and the road was dry.

Every once in a while, it does a low rpm stumble in first gear and second gear.. but we're talking like once every few days. I first thought that I just needed to get used to the clutch (previous owner put in some heavy, hi-po clutch).

Motor is a B16A3 OBD1. Here's the maintenance on it:

- fuel filter DONE
- spark plugs DONE (this evening)
- cap & rotor DONE (last week)
- oil change
- tranny fluid change
- generic CAI with new generic filter.. about 6 months old
- no vacuum leaks to my knowledge (idles fine)
- coolant change last week
- NEEDS throwout bearing in the near future
- cat convertor is stock since 95

Now, as some of you might know, I did this swap very recently. When we did the swap, we didn't have time to check/set timing. I'm thinking that this could be the problem, because when I removed the distributor (while the motor was out), I remembered to mark the rotor (everything was at TDC anyways), but I forgot to mark the location of the bolts.

I'm thinking that it's out of timing. BUT, could it also be a sign that maybe the cat convertor is slowly breaking up/dying? Considering that I USED to have a z6 motor, and now I'm pushing this thing to 7500rpm..
