Default axle help!

i was installing a new passenger side cv joint tonight and all was well until when i tried to put it back in it wouldnt go in. when i looked inside the hole, something was in there sideways, blocking the inboard shaft from going in all the way, so the question is what happened? i'll post a picture, but i dont really know how to. so if someone can give me the code for inserting a pic in here, i'll post that. just help me please.

tranny had a shaft in the differential? that's the pinion shaft in the differential. it should be there unless you have a LSD tranny. just keep wiggling and push the axle in.
