Comptech Icebox
anyone using the Comptech Icebox on their DC5? how is it compared to the AEM CAI? Any info would be great. I searched but only For Sale/Wanted topics came up. Thanks in advance.
A CAI will net you more HP and is the best bang for your buck. If hydrolock is a serious issue and you dont want to deal with the heatsoak of a SRI then the icebox is a good compromise.
i have it on my civic and I love it. way better throttle response then the generic sri I had, don't have to worry about hydrolock (i live in hawaii with serious rain...) it's really quiet, and it looks fairly stock...worth the money IMO...
i agree,
i'm running it on my DC5 and its amazin. Gives good midrange gains & throttle response (better in twistys then a CAI but not as great in the straits), there was a power dip (like most intakes) around the stock vtec engagement point but if you have a reflash or KPRO then it will help eliminate it

I agree a CAI > all except hydrolock issues. I think a lot of people are too paronoid about hydrolocking. The filter of your CAI would have to be completely submerged to have any chance of sucking up water. Don't drive like you own a submarine and you will be fine.
Switching your CAI out is a huge mistake. You are going to not only lose power but also that sweet sound.

Agreed. I mean you aren't driving a freaking yellow submarine...If you see a HUGE puddle where you think you'll submurge your CAI then turn around or take your foot off the gas, put the car in neutral, and coast through it. I have made it through plenty of puddles this way. I think some people (mostly who dont have a CAI) have this belief that if a water droplet falls onto your filter then your engine self detonates or something.

it depends on where you live though, I live in hawaii where it rains ALL the time, and there are always big puddles, mini rivers flowing down the roads, it's very common. when I lived in cali, it woul d rain like twice a year, so it is an issue for some people...

i agree. Of course you want to avoid water puddles whenever you see one. The problem is you don't always see them at night and you can't always turn back or go to a different road during busy rush hours.
