whats the widest tires i can put on rims "x6" i have 185's now

 

What kind of car do you have (year, model, version)?

The best tire size for 14" wheels on '95 and earlier Civics and CRXs is 185/60-14, and you can also fit 195/55-14 on those.

The best tire size for 14" wheels on Integras and '96-00 Civics is 185/65-14, and you can also fit 195/60-14 on those.

 

i have 185/60/14 on the rims. they are for my crx. so no way 205's would fit? widest is 195's?

205 can be mounted on the rim, but they will probably rub on the wheel wells, they will make your car accelerate slower, and they will make your speedometer and odometer inaccurate.

If you want better performance, get stickier tires, not wider tires. The Yokohama ES100 is available now in 185/60-14, and the Toyo T1-R is available in 195/55-14. Both offer very good performance. The Falken Azenis RT-615 is even stickier and will be available in 185/60-14 starting this summer.

 

205 wouldnt rub. my brother had them on his crx. 205/50/15 es 100 on all 4 of his fat fives. his speedometer and odometer was accurate. but about they will make your car accelerate slower, im not sure about that one might be true. by how much slower? do you know?

205/50-15 is an alright match for 185/60-14, 185/65-14, 195/55-15, and 195/50-15. It will all be within +/- 2% which is okay but not the best. I would just get the size that is meant for your car.

But we are talking about 14" rims.

No, they weren't. They read 1.9 percent higher with that size. The proper 195/50-15 size reads only 0.1 percent higher.

It's just like getting a taller final drive ratio. For example, if the final drive ratio of your car is 4.00, using oversized tires like the 205/50-15 is the same thing as changing to a 3.93 final drive gear.

Neither one is a HUGE difference, but there's no reason at all to use oversized tires. Especially when there are so many good 195/50-15 tires (and they're cheaper, too).
