Default transmission questions

my friend has a 97 accord EX automatic...

first, he says the car shudders in idle when in drive, but stops shuddering when he shifts to neutral.

second, what is the fluid capacity for the transmission?

third, what is the method to check the fluid level...does the engine have to be running, and fluid at operating temperature?

THANKS

To check the level warm up the car to operating temp(drive it around for like 20 min), then check the level with the car OFF. Should be between the cross hatched area. Check the color and smell of the fluid. Should be a cherry red color(some synthetics might be a little darker). If its like a brown and smells burnt might want to try changing the fluid. Also check the auto shifter linkage. If its off a bit it might not allow the manual valve in the valve body to open all the way. If all those are good then the problem is a little more involved.
