Tires for my Honda
Hi Everyone. I have to puchase 4 new tires for my 1999 Honda EX - 4 cylinder within the next month and remove the studded snows. Any recommendations for a good tire, that hugs the road, doesn't slip in rain and won't break my bank account. I have 15" rims. What would you put on your significant other's/girlfriend's/mother's/wife's car? And yes, I am the typical, sensibile, reliable girl, just like my 4 door sedan!. Thanks in advance for the advice. : )
Since you are removing your snow tires, I assume you won't be using these new tires in snow. So you really don't need all-season tires.
The best 15" size for your car is 195/55-15. I recommend either of two tires in this size: the Kumho Ecsta SPT or the Yokohama ES100, which are $63 and $61 each (respectively) at the Tire Rack. They will hold the road well, are terrific in rain, and will last a reasonably long time. Both are excellent tires for the money.
By the way, it will be easier and less costly for you to get a second set of inexpensive wheels for your winter tires; that way, it will be easier to take them off - you can even do it yourself if you like - and you won't have to get the tires mounted and balanced at the start and end of each winter. If you have trouble finding inexpensive wheels, you can look up wheels for a 2004 Honda Civic on the website for Majestic Honda (4 door LX manual trans), go to the section for WHEEL DISKS, and you will see that they sell the stock black 15x6 steel wheels (part number 1358456, "4 DISK, WHEEL (15X6JJ)") for $37.52 each. Heck, they're only 30 miles from you - order them by phone, then go pick them up, and you won't have to pay for shipping. You can wait till next fall to do this...
