Default 2002 Honda Accord EX Automatic - Feels clunk/rapid downshift when cold

Good morning,

A fellow co-worker has the following car with the following problem:

2002 Honda Accord EX (4 cyl.) Automatic

She states that when the car is cold she feels a clunk while coming to a slow stop. Kind of like if the transmission brings down the gear all of a sudden and you feel that jolt. She does not hear any noise, she only feels it. If anyone can help, it will greatly be appreciated. Thank you.

What ended being your problem? She wants to take it to have it placed on the diagnostic machine, but I don't think that it will come up since it seems to be something mechanical and she's not getting any type of CEL.

I've a '99 4 cyl that shifts hard when cold, which I understand to be by design (less wear). Smooths out as the car warms up.

I'd have it checked out if there is any doubt, the 98-02 Accord trannies have some reliability issues.

I believe that Honda has extended warranties on 00-02 Accords up to 100k miles.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies, following the link it seems that only 2000-2001 models are covered, not the 2002. That sucks.

trans is gonna crap out on it. Erratic shifting and clunking during shifts are the signs of impending doom. Most likely lost the 2nd gear clitch pack
