Default OOPS!!! question on fixing air compressor!!!

I've got a 30gallon kobalt air compressor but broke off the air regulator stem.

It broke off right inside the outlet on the tank and they've got some sort of uber-sealant on it. I've been trying and trying with an easyout and cant get it to budge...I just keep tearing up my tools. Oh, and the damage isnt warrantiable since due to how it happened.

anyway, can I just drill out and retap the threads and be done with it?? I'd go ahead and just do it but I dont know how the filings that I know will get into the tank will act?? Will they just stay and behave themselves at the bottom of the tank or when pressure is built up and I use a tool will they fly up and clog up ****??

Teflon tape will work fine on pipe threads. It is better to use normal pipe sealant, but the tape crap works. Just be aware of the direction you are wrapping and don't go crazy with tons of it.
