Crazy noise while driving engine turns off now sounds like hell. Help!
I was driving to work this morning and my car started making a rattling noise. At first I thought it was a loose bolt on my exhaust (a problem I was going to fix this weekend). It then got louder and louder, until the engine shut off.
I coasted to the side of the road and tried to turn the car back on. It fires, idles around 1000, but shakes like hell.
The car did not throw and CELs whatsoever, no smoke out the tail pipe or from under the hood, and no fluids under the hood. No oil or coolant splattered.
I have no idea what the hell happened. I am currently at work and will go tow the car home later.
If anyone has any ideas of what happened, or where I should start looking for problems I would greatly appreciate it.
The car is a 93 cx with a 95 gsr swap. The motor has about 115,000 miles on it. Never boosted, sprayed, etc. Basic I/H/E. Cap, rotor, plugs, and wires were all changed about 2 weeks ago.
Thanks for the help if you need more info ask. I will try my best to answer them.

first thing is check plugs for any signs of what could have happened...you could see some sort of evidence of an internal mechanical failure, or whatever...then do compression check....that will give you a basic picture of what could be happening. you could atleast narrow it down (possibly) to a cylinder or two...or it could be a more broad issue that can be traced to the ignition or fueling...
Does the engine sound fine when it's running? Does it still have the same power as is it did? I'm asking because the problem you describe almost sounds like a busted engine mount. If the engine isn't running right I would definitely check out your plugs. Your plugs will tell you alot about how your engine is running.

This sounds more like a spun bearing that finally froze. I would do an oil change and see if there are gold-looking flakes in the motor oil.
whats the current situation on the motor? it runs, its starts but wont go more then 1K, or it wont even start?

The car starts and idles, but while it idles it is shaking like crazy and making a knocking type sound. I checked all of the mounts and they looked fine.
I was too afraid to try to drive it in the condition it was in. I didn't want to make it any worse than it already was.

sounds like a dead cylinder or two...
ha- i rememeber burning up a few exhaust valves at atco one time and drove home on two healthy cylinders...nothing like an hour or so driving under such conditions.

Whats your oil level at now?
Does the knocking noise get louder when the revs go up?
If you turn the car on and rev it, and if it gets louder when you rev it....at about 3k rpm you car should sound like woody woodpecker. At that point im 99% sure you have a spun rod bearing.
