question about a bumper?

i got my 98+ bumper and i am going to sand it down and primer it myself. my question is what grade sand paper should i use? and i will have pics on a how to also

if u have stone chips use 400 and work ur self up to a grand. if its smooth start from 600 and work ur self up.
