Default Arospeed front mount intake

I'm wanting to get a mugen aero style bumper for my 96 civic and wanted to fill the whole with Arospeed front mount intake, but have some questions.
I was wondering how these work, it seems to me that the air would go right through.
Do they suck up water more than normal intakes???
how close do they look to an actual intercooler??

Thanx!!!
