Default Ram Air Intake Causing Early Fuel cut

I recently installed a ram air intake in my 98 4 cyl accord. It sounds great, but the fuel cut is now at 5000 rpms instead of 6000 something rpm. Does anyone have an idea why?

There is something wrong. Is it a manual or auto?

sounds like you screwed up your vtec...

when vtec doesn't kick in there is premature rev limiter...which would be about 5k

also, are you sure you let your car warm up enough?

and there SHOULD be a check engine light

the other question should be asked is that did you reset the ecu after installing the intake? if you haven't try disconnect the negative terminal of the battery and reconnect after 5mins and start the car again, w/o any accessories on, everything needs to be turned off except the ignition when you start the car first time after reconnect the negative terminal of the battery, and then let it run for 5mins and turn the ignition off and then you are set to go.

you will see how this will stablizes the rpm after doing this.

i'm no expert, but i recall when installing my intake. there was some vtec hoses and such, that were required when installing the intake onto a vtec engine. (since i lack the vtec i just simply discarded them) but perhaps you should take another look

Weel, I took off one of the terminals, for about a minute or so, I don't remember if it was the negative of the positive one. But, it did reset my stereo and I had to put the code back in again.

I will try it again this weekend to be sure.

Im not sure about those hoses either. Maybe there is an extra sensor on the intake piping that has something to do with vtec. I am not sure never really looked at an intake of a car that has not had vtec with one that did have vtec of the same model side by side before.

um vtec does not need any 'hoses' to operate

Where is the O2 sensor of the accord, is it in the intake manifold itself, or is hooked up somewhere in the old air filter assembly, and I missed hooking it up in the new ram air intake system.

Is it possible that the ECU "does not know" that there is more airflow, causing it not to allocate the right amount of fuel, triggering the knock sensor to cut fuel earlier in the rev range?

o2 sensor on the intake? there's an air temp. sensor. it may be on the intake manifold, i dont know though.but yes i would check that.

Yea.. I have seen this problem before too on VTEC Hondas. This probably isn't the answer but check your oil. The VTEC operates on volumetric pressure of oil. If there is not enough oil in your engine then the VTEC will not kick in and you'll redline much earlier. I saw a car redline around 4 grand b/c there wasn't enough oil to activate the VTEC.

I don't think there is a problem with the VTEC, because it does engage, around thesame RPM as it did before, the only difference is that fuel cut hits me around 5000 RPM. I think this might be an evasive action that the ECU takes to prevent damaging the engine.

I need to know how to prevent this evasive action...do I put higher ocatane gas, or do I need VAFC or whatever...

stock vtec x-over is at 5250, if your fuel cut out at 5k you would never get onto the hi-cam.

Ok now the O2 sensors are next two the vtec hose on the intake take your vtec hoses and connect them to your O2 sensor on the inside of the intake next to the "Flux Capaciitor" With some duct tape and a little bailing wire that will solve your problem and when you hit 88 mph you will travel to the future where all cars have vtec and a badge run low 8 sec E.T.s and get 98 mpg
