Default steering wheel vibration/shimmy

well something sprung up on the lude today. my wheel shakes back and forth like crazy once i hit over 80km/h. im thinking alignment but im not ruling out balljoints/tie-rod ends. car only has 120000km's and its not lowered and on stock wheels.
anyone got an idea to what would cause this. faster i go the worse it gets.
we has 23cm of snowfall lately and was driving through it no problem but maybe it knocked something out of place? i was bottoming out a lot.

one more thing to check is if it is still cold and ice has built up on the inside edge of the wheel it will simulate an unbalanced tire

True. I had the same problem this winter.
It should shake like hell for a while - but after it melts, everything should be fine.

took it in for a front end inspection. turns out my passenger side lower control arm bolt was loose and you could shake the tire back and forth a good 2 inches of travel. its in the shop right now getting fixed/front wheel alignment. it needed one anyway. was pulling to the right pretty good anyway .

not to jack the thread or anything, but I have a similar problem... whenever I am going at high speeeds and give the brakes anything more than a light tap, the steering wheel shakes back and forth and the brake pedal vibrates some. I've just had my wheels aligned and the problem persists. any ideas?

Maybe a warped rotor.

I was thinking something along those lines. I'll jack up the front and see if there's any play in the wheels to see if the control arms and bearings are ok. Could pop off the wheels and take a look at the rotors as well

rotors are warped, if you do alot of hard braking or braking from high speeds rotors warp very quickly. try powerslot or another slotted rotor.

got it fixed. it was actually the caster adjust bolt. tech took it for a drive and said nothing felt wrong, i called bullshit and put it up on the hoist. low and behold haha.

tightened bolt and got a alignment.

I've been through three sets of OEM rotors in the year and a half I've had my car. The damn things just keep warping but they replace them for free (under warranty) so no problem! I don't drive like a nutter (at least not all the time : ) and the garage swear my hubs aren't warped. Next time they go I'm going to get some different rotors as I'm gettting very bored of this.

i like to stay with factory honda rotors if you have aftermarket replacements that could be the culprit. i have found that parts store rotors need to be turned when they are brand new and i stay away from them. if you have factory spec rotors i would go for the powerslot rotors, they seem to be pretty nice
