Default Hey Guys I'm a noob with some questions about rebuilding a 94 Honda EX

Hi Guys,
I'm usually over on a jeep board but my wife's car is on its way out a 94 Civic EX.
Everything stills runs but .... the tranny is on its way the odom and seed don't work. Stoped at 150k. The shocks are pretty shot and the paint and interior are crap.

What do you all think it would cost to rebuild. I'm hoping it less then a down payment on a new car. I'd like more power, rebuild the tranny, Shocks and struts, Exaust maybe. Paint and interior (at least new seats)
I'm no wrencher so I'll have to pay.....
I'm from CT too so if anyone can recomend a place too that be cool.

Hope you all have some advice.

well over here in canada, a civic tranny is like $100 CAN for a manual tho, and 2 front civic seats are like $60-100 CAN and paint job is like at least $1000 CAN, so i dont know how it is in US.
hope that gave u an idea of how much u gona have to spent just on parts.(not the paint job tho).

well what is your "down payment"?

If you are gonna pay to have the car re-done as in:
shocks
tranny rebuild
engine tune up
new gauge cluster
new paint
new misc interior pannels
labor

you might as well get a new car or find another 94 Civic Ex and sell what you have to a project taker. I can easilly see those costs running well over 5k

you can reduce this by finding the parts yourself, but not knowing exactly what to look for can be tuff if you dont know the parts. also labor is gonna kill the bill.

z6 tranny $100-150 pending condition. maybe less.
complete rebuild of current $1500+ (includes labor + parts)
paint job $400-$x,000 depending on who and where, the $400 wont last though.
Suspension $7-800 (parts+labor)
cluster $250 +/-
Misc Interior Pieces $X could be anything.

i see $3k right there getting the cheap paint job at say maaco and not counting interior stuff like seats. that's a nice down payment on a new civic right there.

4k would not be easy, but it could be done. with time. Focus on fixing the motor/tranny/suspension first.

How is the body? assuming only the paint is bad and there is 0 rust, you can get a macco job for 3-900 bucks depending on the package. A real shop would be better, but it's all about what you want.

Lastly, what needs to be replaced on the interior other than the gauge cluster? (if that is even the problem, electrical diagnostics can cost $$$ at a shop).

where in CT are you? some shops might be to far to be worth while.

I live near Bridgeport, Shelton area so there hopefully should be some good places close by. I'd like a one stop shop that can just take it and do it all but what ever if I have to peice mail it out that's ok too if it keeps the cost down.

The interior is really ok I just would like to have it updated a little and looking nicer. Any recomendations on places??? are you in CT too Vero?

Yea NO rust NOTHING. Others then the normal pings from rocks ect... and my wife knocking off the passenger side mirror it;s in good clean shape.

(Some one recomended that I look into have a trade high school do some work on it but not really sure about how to go about that. Guess I'd just have to call the school.)

yeah, I'm in CT too.

a trade high school is cheap way to do it, but it usually takes longer than a real shop would.
Look up some local tech schools and then try calling to see if they are looking for projects and the time frame.

I can't think of any 1 stop places, since most shops are body or motor/maintenance. I know a good honda place in the Canton area, the owner does very good work at a reasonable price. He'd be straight up and honest about the best route to go, costs and time frames.

He does work with a local custom body shop as well sometimes, so you could arange to have the car worked on and painted back to back.

let me know if you are intrested.
