Dear newbie.....

On the upper right hand corner of the screen there is a search function. Please use it when possible.

Cold Air Intake, Header, and Exhaust are some of the most popular topics held here on H/T. You'll find the answer to your questions as soon as you search either recent topics or the archives.

Check it out....

Hope this helps.

Hey Chris
What type of HP do you get by going Ram air? and what type of filter are you using to block all the dirt that gets in there? Do you have problems when it rains?

I dont know the gains.. but it helps the top end (short ram) and is cold air, so I get the best of both worlds IMO (better top end is what I want for racing, people may like the long AEM for mid range gains)

I have the Comptech foam drop in, no power gains there over stock, just re-usuable. And technically its not RAM air.. because of the filter.. now if I ran without the filter, then minimal gains, due to the speeds one would have to be traveling to see much benefit from RAM air.

When it rains I tape up the hole and pull the lid off... the car doesnt see too much street driving anymore ( I have a 3rd car now, so the R is my track car)

The other side... the light is stock.

if you wrap your intake with thermal wrap..does that help? Considering that you have a short ram air intake...
my opinion on CAI, is that they all perform the same...with the exception of those front mount piece of ****...aem has what the call their aem hump where you can see the most significant hp and torque increase..however with the high end its exactly the same as the short ram...

Mine is wrapped near the radiator, and shielded the rest of the way..

no sense in making a CAI if the air is just giong to heat up on the way from the air box to the IM.

As for AEM and their "hump", I am sure thats just a side effect of their design and are trying to capitalize on it, intentional or not.

The facts are:

Short ram.. power gain high in the band, but hot(er) air
Long tube...power lower, more driveable mid-range, cold(er) air

My design...best of both worlds, but less light on the right side when high-beams are needed

I agree with Chris on the Comptech Icebox. I prefer the sound of the Icebox and the low-end performance gain compared to the AEM. But I couldn't justify the cost of it, so I opted to make my own using the stock airbox (aka. DIY "Icebox"). You can go to my webpage at http://www.geocities.com/bretq/DIY_Icebox_CAI.html for instructions on making your own "Icebox".

Here is a picture of the intake horn with the turn signal removed.

I also modified a turn signal lense to make a "ram air" duct, which connects to my DIY "Icebox". I primarily use it on the track, but I periodically (ie. nice day and no threat of rain) use it on the street. Here are a couple of pictures.

This picture shows the "connector" that joins the modified turn signal duct to the opening of the "Icebox".

has any of yoiu guys who customize ur own intake dyno ur car?
cuz i kinda did try and i notice when i hit vtec, the rpms did not move as quick as the short ramp i have on before. so i think i lost power there and i took the whole thing out, and put it back to normal.
