b-series tranny w/h22 in a prelude?
i'd like to know if anyone has ever attempted to adapt the b-series tranny to the H22 in a Prelude. i've seen it done in civics with success, and the reason i ask is due to the better gearing found in this tranny. i'd be interested to know how much modification or fabrication would need to be done in order to mount this different tranny. (not adapt it to the motor, but the actual transmission mount)
Well i would think the B series tranny would have a lot less torque than a H22 tranny. Plus with the wieght of a 5th gen prelude that tranny is going to need a lot of power to pull it.

I think its pretty retarded to do this in a prelude. For the cost of the b-series tranny, you could easily just get a lower FD for the prelude transmission.

but arent aftermarket parts for the b16 tranny more readily availible?

This would be allot of work and not worth it IMO for a prelude chassis. Custom mounts, axles and shiftlinkage would be needed for starters.

What "aftermarket parts" do you want? The internal gears are essentually the same.
Final drives - Check
LSDs - Check

I've been under the impression that half the reason H2B is popular with Civic/Teg people is that it makes the axle/shiftlinkage issues go away. It would seem to be working the opposite way if you tried it in a Prelude.

Absolutely. The kit revolves around the stock civic/teg transmission location which allows the use of factory axles, midshaft, mounts and shift linkage.

I didn't realize that was the main reason they did it. i thought it was because the gears were better. but that makes a lot of sense.
I guess what Honda318dx said is probably right then for our situation- to just get the lower FD. it would be much easier to just do that.
Well........i guess that pretty much tells me what i was wanting to know. thanks H-T

the gears are another benefit no doubt. I also agree with Corey that the H22 transmission can be built for vaious applications and that would be the route I would take if I had a prelude chassis.
