Recommended Upgrades?
I've had my 97 Civic EK for about 2 years now obviously I've done a few visual upgrades to it, but I would like to maybe do some performance upgrades as well. If anyone can recommend any performance upgrades that I can do on my car it would be greatly appreciated. I know that many of you probably don't have much respect for my lifestyle, but if you know any sort of visual upgrades I should do I would love your input on that also. I was thinking about getting the clear altezza lights sometime soon. Thanks for your help!
wow....is this a girls car? anyways for my cars sake...please leave the altezza tails to RX-8's and is300's where they were made for the car....
maybe put a turbo on it.....a BIG ONE....to overcome all the purple weirdness...and the weird rainbow...i hope this is a girls car...no efense....

just to avoid getting flamed, i would paint over that rainbow..not to be a hater or anything, but just 4 u to avoid unneccesary torment... th ecar does look pretty dull to, try to stay away from the altezza lights, thats a fad lost in the Rice Age, if i were you id go with some type r lips and a paint job to start off, as for performance, if youre looking for cheap upgrades, an aftermarket air intake, and header would be good first choices. and if youre looking to spend some real money a motor swap would be suitable too. japanese si (b16a2) is a common swap and the cheapest for your car.. those are just some options for you, although u could always go turbooo.............
When I bought the car It was the purple that it is now, the rainbow is something that I had painted on later. I was looking at the type r lips a few weeks ago and liked the look but I really want to spend more money on some speed. I have some money put back to put into my car but what would you consider more economical and gas efficient? An engine swap or a turbo? Also which one would produce more power for the money, generally speaking.
a turbo will produce more power for the money. for a grand or so you can build a turbo kit and squeeze upwards of 50hp out of it. turbo engines at low boost can also run more efficiently than stock if you dont floor it, there was a thread a while back where someone mentioned getting an extra 2-3 mpg that way.
and though that isnt really my taste in car styling, props for being unique without screaming rice

well, neither a turbo nor engine swap is either economical or fuel efficient.. a turbo would require more fuel and fuel pressure, so youd find yourself at the gas station twice as much as you visit now, and also changing your oil every 2 months or so, and injapan there ar eno smog restrictions, therefore youd be throwing more crap into the air with a jdm swap, plus you would never pass the emmissions test, so you have to know someone who can get you inspection stickers. but the cheaper bang for the buck, well, it could go both ways, u might be lucky to find a cheap turbo kit and all the parts needed, maybe spending 2000 all together.. when an engine swap could cost you 3300 after pricing all the extra parts needed to complete the swap like axles, shift linkage, motor mounts, etc.. i hope this info gives you some kind of idea and sense of direction

I didn't even think about the emissions being different on an imported motor, could these just be cleaned up with a better catalytic converter or would this not be a possibility. Passing emisions is fairly important here so the turbo is looking more atractive. Does anyone know what that laws are governing car modification, like turbochargers in Canada? I'm not really sure what sort of rules there are about things like that. I certainly do not want to make my car illegal though.

This guy has no idea what he is talking about. 20 dollars says he never even done an engine swap. jdm motors do not produce emissions any wrose than their usdm counterparts. Alot of people have done the b16a route and that would definaty be an option. You could get a sir2 b16a complete changeover for well under 2000. 170hp to boot and the swap comes with the axles, shift linkage, and ecu. EVERYTHING you need. It amazes me how mcuh bull I see posted on these forums.
No comment on the rainbow paint.

Well I definatley would change the paint scheme, (just lose the rainbow). JDM engines can and do pass smog as well as the CA state referee, just check out my sig! It should cost around 3-3500 if it's done right. on the other hand a turbo SOHC is always a fun project, and is usually a little cheaper. You just got to figure out what you want to do...make it a little funner and then not do anything else or make it a little funner with bigger plans later on(I'd reccomend the swap if that's the case). As far as exterior mods, I'd go the carbon fiber route:hood, hatch, mirrors & spoiler.

Does THIS GUY even know what hes talking about? $40 says he doesnt even know the real reason why these JDM motors are even available over here with 40k or less miles...hmm i think it was because there are no CARB restrictions on these motors, therefore leading the japanese to pull the motors out after 30-35k miles.. douchebag.. and yea i never said that a motor swap was a bad idea, he just wanted to know about some of the ways he could make his car faster, so i gave him a couple options

ahh who cares. Their have been plenty of people to pass smog with swaps. Some guy on here posted that he passed state referee with a swap and had proof posted. if you cant pass oh well there are ways around that... you know what i mean some extra cash in someone elses pockets. all in all i would just take off the rainbow go with a b16 if he has a low cash flow and call it a day

. too close for my liking...j/k i not care
