You can learn everything there is to know about brake fluid in the technical & faq areas of Stoptech.com. It will make your fluid descisions much easier & more educated.
what pads do fastbrakes come with?
as for brake fluid, i recommend ford heavy duty brake fluid, from the ford dealer. comes in a white plastic bottle with black label. its good stuff and fairly cheap.
other wise, any dot 3/4 will do. quite frankly, i dont recommend you wasting your money on the expensive stuff, especially ones that come in big bottles that youre not going to use all of. once you crack the seal on a bottle, it will accumulate moisture and decrease its effectiveness.
the key is that you keep the fluid fresh with good maintenence. its kind of like engine oil. any 99 cent oil is going to be better than old, used oil.

you may not need to swap out the prop valve as the 96-00 civic htbk and 99-00 civic si all came with the 40/40 prop valve. I dont know if the sedans/coupes did but the hatchbacks did for sure and the 15/16 MC will make a huge difference over your stock 13/16 MC. Good luck
werd i just orderd one but ill check it out at work tomarow there stamped 4040 correct!
anyone else
on check it the kit is for a 92-95 civic but this kit should fit no prob right ?

As far as I've seen (from photos) the EK prop valves are NOT stamped. The 40/40 term comes from the EF/EG/DA/DC valves that all have those numbers stamped near the middle.
I have personally cross referenced all the different valves for the EK generation of civics, and I can tell you for sure that all Hatchbacks use the exact same part number proportioning valve as the 99-00 Si.
If you have an EK hatchback, you don't need to change this part out. If you want to be sure for yourself, look up the prop valves on Hondaautomotiveparts.com...

Thats true, but probably not in the way you think...
Basically, you brake fluid absorbs all kinds of moisture just "sitting" in your resivoir. Moisture is notorious for getting past seals. This is the reason your brake fluid must be changed every once in a while. This is also why we use brake fluid that absorbs moisture. If it didn't, your brake system would corrode from the inside. The bad part is that the added moisture lowers the effective boiling temperature making the fluid less effective when used to extreemes...
Lets just say you buy a big bottle of brake fluid to completely bleed the brake system. Now your done, but you still have half a bottle left over. Now the bottle sits on the shelf, and the fluid sits in the brake system. Both accumulating moisture over time. When it comes time to bleed the brake system again, your old bottle of fluid has just as much moisture in it as the fluid in your brake system. Don't want ot put that in your system now do you...
