GLENDORA, Calif. (March 7, 2006) – NHRA officials announced today that WD-40 Company, maker of WD-40®, the world’s most well-known all-purpose problem solver, has signed an agreement to become the Official Multi-Purpose Problem Solver of the NHRA Xplōd Sport Compact Drag Racing Series.
The partnership, which includes an innovative bonus program that rewards the best sport compact crew chiefs and a new weekly tech-oriented feature on the NHRA Sport Compact Web site, is WD-40’s first involvement with NHRA.
“WD-40 is widely recognized as the premier automotive problem solver on the market and the NHRA is the world’s premier sport compact drag racing series, so the partnership makes perfect sense,” said Josh Peterson, general manager of the NHRA’s Xplōd Sport Compact Drag Racing Series. “We are pleased to welcome WD-40 into the NHRA family. We are very excited that WD-40 will recognize the outstanding technological achievements of our race teams and crew chiefs in the motorsports industry.”
As part of the agreement, at each race stop for the NHRA Xplōd Sport Compact Racing Series the WD-40 Company will offer an award to recognize the NHRA Sport Compact Crew Chief of the Race. The winning Crew Chief of the Race will earn $250, a plaque, and will receive recognition during the opening ceremonies at each NHRA Sport Compact Series event and on NHRAsportcompact.com.
“Through the WD-40 Crew Chief of the Race program, not only will the cars be competing against each other on the track, but the crew chiefs will be competing against each other in the pits,” Peterson said. “This competition among the sport’s elite tuners will add more excitement to each race outcome and provide insight on how WD-40 can help these teams keep their cars race-ready.”
At season’s end, the WD-40 NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Crew Chief of the Year will be recognized and one winning race team crew chief will earn a cash award in the amount of $1,000.
In addition, WD-40 Company will be the presenting sponsor of the NHRA Sport Compact “Tech Talk” section on NHRAsportcompact.com.
