honda/acura paint = P.O.S.??
this weekend i was talkin to a friend in the autobody business (15+ yrs) about an estimate to color change my car. he was checkin around when he said that honda uses a single stage paint, which doesnt have a clearcoat. then to prove it, he put some wax on my car and buffed it off and the rag was red!!! then he explained thats why most hondas/acuras (red ones at least) have a haze or fade when they get older. he is very experienced, has no bias against hondas (owns an FD3S and a turbo civic hatch) but i wanted to know if anyone could confirm this or has had the same results when you go to wax your car thanks

Hondas most definitely do use clearcoat on their paint. Now it sounds like you have Milano red, which is different than most paints. The Honda Milano red is a 2-stage paint that uses a sort of orange color coat, with a tinted clearcoat to give it the red color. The problem with this is that over time as the clearcoat fades with exposure to UV rays and stuff, the color turns more pinkish. That is why color came off on the rag, because of the tinted clearcoat.

Ya that makes since that its POS. My 93 had granada black pearl and when I went to school and left it outside 24/7 it's paint started fading, turned gray then flaked off. So I had to get it repainted, but took it to a cheap place that didnt do that grade of job on the edges.
i like the factory paint a lot better. they definitely do use clear coat. thats why people wax their cars... it helps the oxidation of the paint.
yea i do have milano red.. the paint isnt really starting to chip off but its turning light peach/pink in some places.. which is why im gettin it resprayed
