Default Milano Red Duplicolor...

This is gonna prolly sound retarded, but I bought some Milano Red Duplicolor paint to repair some panels on my Del Sol and it got me thinking about attempting a complete respray. I rattle-canned my old 85' corolla flat black (as seen on the WRX in Sport Compact Car) very smoothly if I do say so myself. What does everyone think? Stupid idea? Should I just save up to have it done? There are quite a few blemishes and fade spots so a total respray will need to be done eventually, so why not just do it myself? Let the insults begin.....

Thanks for posting. I don't think that guy used rattle can though. Still looks insanely good though!

yes duplicolor makes a select amount of paint matching rattle cans for our hondas... too bad VSM is not one of them.

If you're confident, I don't see why that would be a problem to rattle can the whole car!

just make sure to prep well, be patient, and oh yeah take alot of pics

At my local "Advance Auto Parts" they carry rattle cans of Duplicolor spraypaint in tons of factory colors for $4.44 a can. And thanks to everyone for the confidence boost. I'm actually kinda looking forward to this now. I just wish someone could tell me if you can wax a duplicolor painted car after its all dried.

i'm in the process of rattle cannin' a good portion of my engine bay. my buddies didnt even realize it, they said "damn thats clean as hell"...and i said duh i just resprayed it. all i did was wetsand, prime, wetsand, duplicolor color coat, sand 2000 grit, waiting for oem NH578 paint (bought from expresspaint.com) for last color coat. but i'm still comtemplating on how to go about the clear coat. i always mess that part up and never get that gloss look...i always get swirls .

I have painted parts using the dupli color paint in cans and I have waxed it afterwards with good results.

yeah I figured I'd wait at LEAST a month. I just wanted to make sure I COULD wax over the duplicolor. Excellent news. I'm actually getting pretty excited about this. It reminds me of the weekends "Mad Maxing" my corolla. Ahhhh, sweet sweet rattle cans, haha. Thanks guys. I'll take lots of pictures once I get going.

How would you go about clearcoating it? Just rattle can clearcoat? And is it really necessary? I would have assumed that the Duplicolor had some sort of clear coat built in.

Well the weather here in good ol' Indiana is too cold to paint outdoors so my project is temporarily on hold. Once it gets going though, I'll probably start a new thread to put pictures and details in.

the built in gloss is never gonna be as good as a stand alone gloss.

Hey thanks for posting. I just went and found today that "Duplicolor" makes a standalone clear coat. I'm getting pretty psyched on this project. I think I'm gonna just do the rear bumper first cuz' its in the worst shape. I'll take before pictures too. I figure I'll sand/clean/primer/wetsand/paint/wetsand/clearcoat.
Sound like a good order of operations?

I dont know about painting your whole car, but I used milano duplicolor on the sideskirts and mirrors of my old ek. it turned out ok, but wasn't near as glossy as the original. BTW, i used the clearcoat also.

Thx for posting as well. Yeah I figured I'm looking at at least a few coats of paint as well as clear coat. I thought the rear bumper would be a good place to start and give me an idea if I like the look of it or not. I guess really I don't need to do the whole thing. Probably the trunk, front bumper, mirrors, front driver quarter panel and the little strip on the back of the targa top. I guess I'll see what I think of the bumper and get your guys opinions too once I get pictures up. Thanks for posting though.

Haha, grasshopper. Good one. I don't see why it should turn out anything other than acceptable. I mean the only difference is the pain is coming out of a can instead of a gun. Same paint. As long as you follow the steps you would use to do it proffesionally (wet sanding, multiple coats of paint/clearcoat) it should turn out just like a shop. I don't know if I mentioned it or not but I did find Duplicolor clear coat as well in an aerosol can. THanks for the motivation. If only you could motivate this weather out and bring on some sun, haha.

I so wish I could. This high today here was 50. I need to get to at least 65 to be painting. Sigh, lame time for a painting idea, eh?
