Default Why No Prelude Type R?

Hey i just watched the Best Motoring "Type R" video and It got me thinking. The prelude, being one of the elite of Honda's... Why would they not complete the TYPE R family? I think it would have been awsome. Prelude w/ recaros, red and black stitching, optional lips and spoilers, upgraded brakes and susp and wheels!!

Post your ideas/comments

all the type-r cars had high-revving motors and the prelude was kinda in a league of it's own.. th type-s was just a notch down from what they probably could have done iwth it. (kinda like typ-r and ty-s alpine subs) accord/integra/civic always had more of a following so they went all out with those to make more cash

i love that dvd! its cool how they show you all the differences between the type-r and base. for those of you who have seen the video know that there is a huge difference between base and the type-r models. honda took their crappy economy cars and made better engines and put decent suspension on them to make them highly efficient. if you look at the prelude, the base model already has a very high standard (since it was designed as a sports car, like the s2k) and would be difficult to make a version worthy of production. IMO a prelude is the best front wheel drive honda has ever made; lots of power and torque, unique styling, sporty interior, more luxurious interior, and honestly i'm surprised it wasn't under the acura name. the reason they took a base nsx and made a type-r is so that they could have a piece of the supercar market.

the accord r had the type s engine so for a type r they could have put better brakes and susp. on the lude, but maybe honda thought the type s could hold its own against the r's, which it can cuz one of those motoring videos had a type s beating s2000, integra, accord, civic until he lost it on a turn.
kinda makes me mad that there is no r but im just as happy to know that ricers cant put a r spoiler or sticker on the prelude and people bein like yo

I believe the video from them called "roaring vtec" or something like that has the JUN Prelude

They talk about how the Prelude was unpopular, the car may not have had a big enough market for a type R model.

its not that the prelude was unpopular, its more of a luxury car than a civic or an integra

yes, sadly i have seen them on preludes before, and interestingly enough i saw one on an accord too . i like the idea of a prelude type-r, but its not necessary. i love my base model just fine. i even beat a type-r and sti on an auto-x last summer and placed first in my class (modified/street tire). it is my proudest race to date.

The 5th gen had an SiR grade. Not a type R but did have the red and black 2tone interior. Japan Only of course. Also i beleive it was basically a Type S with LSD instead of ATTS and a trim package.
