Electrical system failure
This has happened 4 times in the past 3 weeks. I try to start 1997 Accord A/T all electric system are dead...no dashboard lights...radio calling for "code"/ Clock reset to 1:00 m//Starter will not respont to key turn-no noise. After 10---15 mins car starts ok...And starts many many times during the next several days. Then happens again. Once this happened 10;00 after I shut car off and tried to restart. There does not seem to be any pattern to my dilema.
144,000 miles on vehicle.
4 Cyl.
Measured battery voltage !4.12.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thank you.

Ignition switch (electrical portion)
There's actually a recall for this condition.
Your car may be involved..........................
Refer:
NHTSA Recall Campaign Number: 02V120000
Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH
Details: ON CERTAIN SEDANS, COUPES, HATCHBACKS, AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, ELECTRICAL CONTACTS IN THE IGNITION SWITCH CAN DEGRADE DUE TO THE HIGH ELECTRICAL CURRENT PASSING THROUGH THE SWITCH WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED.
Consequence: WORN CONTACTS COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL WITHOUT WARNING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Corrective Action: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JUNE 14, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009 OR ACURA AT 1-800-382-2238.
Units Potentially Affected: 1000000
Recall Initiated By: MFR
Date added to NHTSA datbase: 05/20/2002
Internal use: 5/20/2002
It's worth a call.

To RiceRocketDave and Padams
Thank you both very, very much. I will call Honda in the Am.
I have an old Schematic for 1994 and figured to either the switch or the ballast resistor, but I knew nothing about a recall.. Again Thanks a bunch.
