All motor EJ6 coupe - Almost at 12's
Posted this in my engine build thread, but I figured this forum would be more fitting for the content.
Went to the dragstrip yesterday for the first time since November.
After a recent "difficulty" involving a part of my valvetrain, I was more than ready to lay down a good time. Keep in mind, this time around I had 15whp more than my dragstrip visits last season.
My first pass, I lined up against my buddy's GSR hatch (Honda Bull). He ended up smoking me the first run, laying down a 13.40 @ 101mph.
Here's my timeslip:
R/T --- 1.066 (Yes, I know. I was sleeping. I wanted to launch well, even though I didn't)
60' --- 2.071
1/8th --- 8.812
MPH --- 81.87
1/4 E.T. --- 13.617
1/4 MPH --- 102.59
That run, I launched at 6000 RPM, and bogged real bad with 11psi in the slicks.
Later in the day, it was a constant competition between my father and I. We both kept switching off in the car, and he ended up getting the quickest pass of the day.
R/T --- .295
60' --- 1.916
1/8th --- 8.462
1/8th MPH --- 83.21
1/4 E.T. --- 13.172
1/4 MPH --- 104.91
About an hour later, after letting the car cool down, I hopped in and damn-near matched the time.
R/T --- .240
60' --- 1.905
1/8th --- 8.468
1/8th MPH --- 83.2
1/4 E.T. --- 13.183
1/4 MPH --- 104.76
After it was all said and done, we had a great day at Cecil County in Rising Sun, MD. I got my 13, and blew away my goal of 13.6.
I also had my highest trap speed on a 13.29 pass. The best trap speed of the day was 105.32mph.
Now I'm just waiting for my RMF narrow!
Thanks for reading.

I just went an double-checked.
There was 13 psi in the slicks for the 13.1x runs.
- Derek
BTW, this is an LSVTEC with an open-diff'd S4C transmission.

I'll take some pictures when I get my digital camera back from my mom.
She's on a trip right now, so it'll probably be tomorrow until I get pics of the timeslips and the car.

yea launch off the limiter, it should spin a bit then hook and BAM! your off
you dont really want your rpms to drop below say 6500 or so in first. if you can keep it pegged in the high rpms spinning the slicks the whole way through first then you will net your best launch.

launch the car higher, 7500+ and you can nail a 12
Make sure you rev out first gear too.

I am currently running the Skunk2 Pro2+ cams/cam gears along with Skunk2 valvesprings/retainers. (Not the Pro Series, though)

Man, if I could cut a sixty-foot like you, I'd be there.
skunked, what was your best time with your 1.8 build?

I was asking this just because you may want to rev a little higher than 8K to keep your car a little higher in the powerband when you grab the next gear. People tend to forget about this yet it can make a big difference.

Oh. He's definately revving past 8K.
So when you retune with the header and buy that 4.7 FD for me to put in... when are we going back???
