Default Got my civic!!

today i bought a 99 civic EX, power evrything, moves when i push the gas and handles great! I know its not an Si but the D16Y8 does have a good after market performance back up right? And if im not mistaking isnt it 135 hp 113 torq? I dont know much about the D16Y8 and i was wondering is it Vtec? I was at a car lot and i took it for a test drive, it was love at first flooring of the pedal, i did scare the hell out of the car sells man. I was driving a suzuki swift (sold 89 civic in Va cause i moved to Nm) for an point A to B car but once i drove this car i new i wanted it.

yeah the d16y8 is a vtec motor, and does a strong aftermarket following. people are doing some pretty crazy thing with turbo single cams these days.

EJ8 is the code in the VIN number. Honda gave all cars a different code. EJ8 means it's a 96-00 coupe/sedan with D16Y8 motor.

For civic's -
EF/CRX: Pre 92
EG: 92-95
EK: 96-00
EP: 01-06
EM2: 01-05

You have a EJ8..also more commonly refered to as a EK...same thing.

sohc dont suck, you suck. learn how to modify your car. and the car has vtec, not vtec-e or e-vtec or whatever you guys think. its sohc vtec so you cant really hear it or feel it. but if you turbo it, youll kill pretty much all all motor b series

It's fun when you pop the hood for a b series guy that just got smoked though. And yes sohc slow but let the driver make the best of it. Turbo is easiest way to get those ******* going. Little nitrous doesn't do wrong neither, put you well into 14s.

Or just swap it...

it's the 4th, 5th, and 6th characters in your VIN. They're not actually EK or EG, but that's just the common way to refer to those chassis'. Yours would be considered an EK (or correctly, an EJ8)

i can gurantee that if you run a built n/a sohc vtec(without turbo/nitrous) you wont be able to come near b series motors with just i/h/e, your best bet is to turbo the damn thing since u already have 100k and whose telling you these lies?

Ditto to what eksi said. With the money you spend with i/h/e,HP camshafts, porting, highcomp pistons, etc, you could have used that money on a b18 swap that has way more NA potential that SOHC. Plus adv/ret the cam will make u lose gains on top or bot depending on which way you turn, unlike DOHC.
