My upper house seem like its getting fat, and i was told it may be time to replace it. I was thinking i can do it myself and just pop it off and pop the new one.

Is there any fluid draining or bleeding that has to be done or worry about air bubbles?

Yes you will losse a bit of fluid. Personally I would fully drain the radiator, replace the hose, Fill the radiator with new fluid, then bleed the system.

To bleed the system you can either use the bleeder screw, or you can leave the radiator cap off and let the engine run untill the fans turn on and off twice. This will take care of all bubbles.

uh oh... is it getting really fat and squishy?
this could be a sign of a petroleum product entering ur cooling system...
prolly nto and just requires replacing but ive seen trans fluid enter cooling systems and every seal and hose needs to be replaced... big job -> stupid customers hahaha

 

o nah its not, i was just told its probably old, right when it goes pass the clamp is when it bulges out a lil bit and looks fat.

Now that its a lil bit cold it doesnt look that fat anymore.

 

haha o ok i have seen them where they are bigger than baseballs and the rubber pulls away from the internal plys and eventully explode

 

so do you know if i really have to bleed the system or anything, or is it a easy switch in or out.

 

just swap it...
being that the thermostat is right there and should be closed when u do this... hahaha other wise u could get burnt

ok, thanks, i just bought the hose and its about 3inches longer than the actual hose. can i cut it to length or just squeeze it in.

 

id cut it espesically if u put it up there n it looks like it would kink in any way but id jus do it anyway so it fit properlly

 

is it oem?
also make sure u cut it with a hose cutter or similar tool (prevent buying same hose twice if it tears)... they will have them @ anylocal autoparts store and they will do it for free just mark where u need it cut

I disagree with this. You have opened the system to air it will need to be bleed in order to make sure you do not get any air pockets, and lead to possiable overheating. Would you replace a brake line and not bleed the system???

It only take 10-15 min to bleed the system, better safe than sorry.

So if i bleed it the coolant, i should keep the heat on and to the max and hi, and keep the radiator cap off until i dont see anymore air bubbles if i do get any...right?
do i need to rev the engine also. I am just replacing the hose so i wont be draining anything...i just want to make sure no air gets in it when i replace the upper hose...

technically you dont need to bleed if the hose bends up a little bit, this will allow all air to collect in the hose and not in the coolant space in the motor, there will be no overheating then... the best thing to do though is if you have long enough and flexible enough tubing... raise your radiator a few inches so the top is the highest point in the cooling system, then turn on your car for about 5 minutes and all bubbles will circulate through and out the top of the radiator...

nerd time... i have a watercooled computer... this is how i got rid of air bubbles which could cause overheating on my processor

 

just let ur car run for 1 minute and sqeeze the new hose a few times to let the bubbles out w/ ur rad cap off

 

Well i replaced the hose and let the run for a little bit with the cap off and so far everything is cool. it also at the shop now getting the timing belt/water pump etc done.

 

if you are getting the water pump done they will flush and refill your system anyway

reuse old coolant hhaahah that'd be horrible

 

yeah no kidding, and that would solve any problems with air in an upper hose, this is now a worthless thread..... and keepign the old coolant in there would prolly break the new pump like the old one... o well
