Default Changing out the rods

I am changing out the rods on my b16a blocks. I need to know if they have to be punched out or is there a hidden pin or ring somewhere. I just do not want to try to punch it out to find out that there is a pin that I just sheared off.

Just unbolt the rod caps and push them up thru the cylinder, but gently push them up in case there is a nasty ridge at the top of your cylinder. If you feel resistence at the top of the cylinder, you could damage your pistons or rings unless a ridge-reamer is used to remove the ridge.

I removed a piston and rod from my hydro-locked B18A at around 250K miles, and the ridge had no effect on my piston and rod coming out or going back in.

No punching needed.

Are you swapping pistons or just taking out the rod/piston from the car?

If you are looking to get the piston out, you need to have a machine shop press the wrist pin out for you.
