The canadian models had the option for keyless entry and there american counterparts were wired for it in 97' at least but dident have the modual installed. Its listed as not ussed in my 97' wiring guide. I dont have a book to verify any other years, I know my 95' was not pre wired for it. I had to custom wire the entire alarm system to hide the modual someplace safe.

(I WILL NOT SHARE WHAT I DID)

When I purchased my 97 VTEC I had the option of a having a dealer-installed Honda keyless entry & alarm system installed. I believe the requirement for that option was to have power door locks, but I'm not sure when they added power locks and to which models.

Maybe 93-95 had a different harness on models with power door locks, Honda did tinker a bit with the 96-97 models.

I went with an aftermarket alarm system, dealer installed so it was covered by warranty, because it was cheaper. I got out the door with car + alarm + wing + CD changer + taxes for under $20K. The window sticker was $19.6K for just the car, no doodads.

yeah 96-97 were OBD-2A as oppose to OBD-1 so the wiring had to be different. thats sweet that you had your car since it was new. how many miles does it have?

So where could i go to have a alarm system installed in my car for a good price and quality? Or is it cheaper to do my self? What about Shaved door handles, that way I wouldn't need an alarm or lock my doors because you can't get in without the button. Let me know what you think the best idea is. Right now, i am just curious on what people think.

you can get an alarm syatem at any local radio shop. however if you can do it yourself it would be alot cheaper but for something as important as an alrm you shouldnt be cheap. and as for shaved door handles it doesn't help the sol too much. after going through a couple sols i realized the top is the easiest thing to take off therefore making your door handles obsolete seeing as to how you can get in the car through the roof.

honda did offer a factory alarm system. it did have keyless entry. but i have hardly ever seen it on a del sol. i have one =^-^=b. not sure all the models but i believe it is 93-94 that did not have power door locks. i have 3 93 SI's with no door locks and a 95 with.

i have a 93 with the factory alarm and when i took apart my remote to put a new battery in it....it only has one button on it but inside it has the places for two other buttons...so there had to be some other type of options....unless it was just a standard remote they used for all the cars and one of the other cars had the options

So your saying that installing my own alarm will save me money, but i should get it installed by a shop or store? I don't need a viper alarm, but i don't want a cheap-o. What is a good alarm for a good price?

you should be able to get the lower end viper installed for about $300. might be a little more/less depending on if you have power door locks or not. there are some good threads in the security forum that should give u some more info

as an alarm option from Honda, yes they did. Honda can still sell n' install these or you can buy aftermarket from any car/audio place, like Best Buy or someone...
