95 accord Trany or 1/2 axle problem?
I replaced the half axle on my 95 accord 4cyl today, when I got done I guess I didn't get the inner end back in the trans all the way, because while on the test drive it popped back out and started leaking trans fulid every where(i filled it back up after I saw this). I put it in N as soon as I realized something was wrong. I took it back apart and now I can't get the axle to go all the way into the trans. there about a good inch gap. And when I try to put it in park it just sounds like it's grinding gears. When I put it in gear it doesn't do anything but the Speedometer thinks it doing about 10mph. Now what i'd like to know is if I tore up the transmission (if so any ideas on the $ of getting it fixed?) or do I just need to get a new axle?
i dunno but it sounds like you messed up your differential... since it was under load when the axle poped out. The griding would support my guess........
wll I put a new axle in, and it drove fine for about 20 mins. Then as I was leaving the parking lot where I was testing it, it happended again. So if it is the differential what might I be looking at in costs here?
well since it happened twice, with axles from 2 different places I'm just gonna have it towed to the tranny shop and see what they think. I'll update tommorow....
And yeah, I got the right one from the second place. I don't think Pepboys gave me the right one the first time. I think it was one that was for Anti-lock breaks. And i'm pretty sure it was a for a auto trans, they asked a few times and thats what I said. Well anyway, I'll post tommorow after I get the call from my tranny guy.
And Thanks to every one thats helped!

I just got off the phone with the shop and they said that the axle I had in wasn't the right size. It was just a hair short and wasn't locking into the transmission like it should have been. So I have to go take this one back to Auto Zone and try to get my money (minus the core replacement they already gave me) back.
